244 HIGHER EDUCATION
A most exciting new venture for Concordia is the proposed
four-year nursing program leading to a bachelor of science
degree. This baccalaureate-level nursing program will be
offered jointly by Concordia and West Suburban Hospital
College of Nursing. A feasibility study has been prepared and
will be considered by the Department of Registration and
Education, state of Ilinois, in their March meeting. Assuming
that all the planning details can be taken care of, this program
is scheduled to be initiated in September of 1982 with recruit-
ment for both freshmen and sophomores anticipated.
Innovative ideas from the Psychology Department have
resulted in anew master of arts program in human services. By
using many of the existing courses in the guidance and
counseling program and adding a few specialized courses, this
new degree program should attract students who are seeking
professional training for positions in various church and
community agencies.
The Education Department has been working for several
years on a new master of arts program with emphasis in
reading. This specialization should be attractive to many of
our Lutheran teachers, as well as public school teachers in our
geographic area. The program is currently in the process of
being examined and approved through the normal channels at
the college.
Concordia College is very much involved in long-range
planning. With Board of Control authorization, the adminis-
tration has organized three separate planning committees for
the purpose of accurately describing our present situation and
projecting our needs for the next five years.

Respectfully submitted, ever mindful of the words of Jesus,
the college motto, “If ye continue in My Word, then are ye My
disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth
shall make you free” (John 8:31-32).
