TASK FORCE

and assistant executive secretaries, and their equiva-
lents as determined by position classifications
approved by the Board of Directors, shall be 4 vears.
Appointees may normally expect reappointment if
their work proves satisfactory and there is a con-
tinuing need for their services, but every appointment
shall be subject to mandatory review and decision on
reappointment every 4 years.

b. If a board or commission shall decide not to
renew an appointment, 90-day notice shall be given to
the executive, said period to begin on the first day of
the following month. If the 90-day period should
extend beyond the regular termination date, full
salary shall continue to be paid for services rendered
until the expiration of the 90-day period. During the
90-day period the Personnel Department shall assist
the executive, if requested, in his efforts to find
another opportunity for service in the church. If he
succeeds in obtaining other employment before the
expiration of the 90 days, his salary shall cease by the
first of the following month. In addition to the fore-
going provisions, an additional month’s salary shall
be allowed as severance pay on actual termination of
service.

c. A board or commission may, by majority vote,
also terminate for cause the services of its executive(s)
before the end of the 4-year term. Valid causes for
dismissal are adherence to false doctrine, conduct
unbecoming a Christian, neglect of office, or refusal
to cooperate. In such instances none of the foregoing
financial arrangements shall apply. One month’s
salary shall be allowed as severance pay.

d. A board or commission shall have the authority
to determine at which point an executive becomes
unable to serve because of illness or incapacity. Full
salary shall be continued until the provisions of the
Concordia Plans become operable, but not for more
than 90 days.

a. The following retirement policies shall apply to
salaried nonelective personnel of the Synod except as
otherwise provided for in these Bylaws:

1. Each such person may request early retirement
under the applicable provisions of the Concordia
Retirement Plan, but he shall be eligible at the end of
the calendar year in which his 63th birthday occurs
for reappointment on a contract basis, which re-
appointment shall be for one calendar year at a
time. Such request for reappointment shall be accom-
panied by satisfactory medical evaluations. No
extension shall be granted beyond the year in which
the employee attains the age of 70 as provided in the
Concordia Retirement Plan.

2. To the extent, if any, to which the foregoing is
inconsistent with the provisions of any pension or
retirement plan covering such persons, the provisions
of such plan shall control.

3. The administration of this policy shall be the
responsibility of the Personnel Director.

appointing authorities described above, subject to
annual review and evaluation. Appointees may
normally expect to continue in their positions if their
work is satisfactory as evidenced by the annual
review and evaluation and if there is a continuing
need for their services.

b. If the appointing authorities described above
decide to terminate an appointment, 90-day written
notice shall be given to the executive. During the
90-day period, the Personnel Department shall assist
the executive, if requested, in his effort to find another
opportunity for service in the church. Full salary
shall continue to be paid for services rendered until
the earlier of the date of obtaining new employment
or the expiration of the 90 days. An additional
month’s salary shall be paid as severance pay on
termination of full salary.

c. The month’s severance pay provision shall also
apply to other terminated executives not subject to
the appointment process. Severance pay for secre-
tarial and clerical personnel shall be under policies
established by the Board of Directors.

d. Terminations require the same approvals as
appointment or employment. Terminations may be
appealed to the respective board or commission or the
Board of Directors.

e. Termination of appointment may be made by
the appointing authorities at any time for adherence
to false doctrine, conduct unbecoming a Christian,
