Besides these titles we have produced large quantities of purely
mechanical items, such as covers for filing periodicals, letter-heads, en-
velopes, and other stationery jobs, over seventy million church collection
envelopes, single and in regular or special sets, etc.
The Concordia edition of the Bobbs-Merrill Readers (Baker and
Baker) has now been acquired as our absolute property. It has con-
sumed a very large amount of cash, but we believe it has been a wise
move to buy the plates outright rather than to continue under the
contract arrangement. We are being handsomely supported by our
schools on these readers. Incidentally we may say that we are, at
least with reference to the price of these books, able to compete with
the whole field of schoolbook publishers, although our profit on this
item would be regarded as unattractive from a purely business point
of view.
