Orleans convention have safeguarded the academic and
confessional integrity of our colleges and seminaries; and

cern of the students for the high spiritual, intellectual,
and practical quality of their educational experience and
enlist their intelligence and imagination in these inter-
ests; therefore be it

To Expect a More Christian Attitude
by Governing Boards

RESOLUTION 6-23
Overture 6-74 (CW, p. 340)

Wuereas, The unrest exhibited and felt at our Con-
cordia Seminary in St. Louis since the last convention
resulted in similar reactions, tensions, and unhappiness
at other synodical institutions and among members of
the faculties at these institutions; and

Wuereas, It has been apparent that the Boards of
Control at these institutions and at Concordia Seminary,
St. Louis, as well as the Board for Higher Education,
have had some trying times and some tense moments of
decision-making, resulting in many anxieties, hurt feel-
ings, misunderstandings, and distrust of one another;
therefore be it

Resolved, That we urge all Boards of Control, the
Board for Higher Education, and all members of every
faculty to proceed in their God-given and God-appointed
duties with all patience, all kindness, all charity and love,
and to that end seek to work harmoniously with one
another.

Action: This resolution died since it failed to receive
action before adjournment.

WHereas, Procedures for the election and term of
service of our college and seminary presidents have been
carefully developed by the Synod; and

Wuereas, Current procedures emphasize the eccle-
siastical character of these offices; and

Wuereas, Changes in synodical procedures should be
made only after long and prayerful consideration and
study; therefore be it

Resolved, That we decline to revise the electoral
Process which has been established for the choosing of —
our college and seminary presidents; and be it further

Resolved, That we decline to impose further limita-
tions on the term of service of these leaders of the
church.
