proved, improvements in benefits in the Pension Plan for
Pastors and Teachers; and
Wuereas, The Pension Work Committee in meeting
its objectives of giving consideration to potential meth-
ods of further improving benefits has initiated a review
of the various methods of funding annuities and/or in-
vestment possibilities through major insurance compa-

trustees may carry out their responsibilities by funding
annuities and/or investing through insurance companies,

sion Plan for Pastors and Teachers states that such may
be done by the trustees of such plan; and
WHEREAS, Preliminary responses from insurance
companies do indicate that there may be a potential for
further improvement of benefits in the Pension Plan for
Pastors and Teachers; therefore be it
Resolved, That the Pension Work Committee be en-
couraged to continue its investigation and analysis of the
methods of utilizing major insurance companies in the
funding of annuities and/or for investment purposes; and
be it further
Resolved, That if the analysis by the Pension Work
Committee results in a favorable recommendation re-
garding utilization of contracts with insurance compa-
nies for the purchase of annuities and/or for investment
purposes, the Synod assembled in convention specifically
authorizes the Board of Trustees to take the necessary
action to implement such recommendations and enter
into the necessary contracts involved, and advises the
Board of Directors of the Synod that such board may
exercise its authority (to amend the Pension Plan for
Pastors and Teachers) by amending the plan so that the
Board of Trustees may take said action.
Action: Adopted (3).
(The convention declined an amendment to insert after
“companies” in the first resolved the words: “some of which are
owned and operated by minorities.”)
