To Restructure Irvine
Board of Control
RESOLUTION 6-12
Gverture 6-103 (CW, p. 349)
Wuereas, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
assembled in Cleveland in 1962, Resolution 1-22, estab-
lished the plan for the organization of a Lutheran
College in Southern California, now known as Christ
College Irvine; and
Wuereas, Cleveland Resolution 1-22 indicates that
the Board of Control of this college “is to consist of the
District President, two pastors, one teacher, and three
laymen”; and
Wuereas, It was not the intention of Committee 1 of
the Cleveland convention to set up a different permanent
ratio of Board of Control members than that which
presently exists at other synodical colleges; therefore be
it
Resolved, That the membership of the Board of Con-
trol of Christ College Irvine be the same as that desig-
nated for other synodical colleges in Bylaw 6.23 a 2: “at
least five and no more than nine members. ... The
elective members shall include one to three pastors, one
or two teachers, and three to five laymen.”
Action: This resolution died since it failed to receive
action before adjournment.
To Maintain Highest Accreditation
RESOLUTION 6-13
Overtures 6-83—6-85B (CW, p. 342)
Wuereas, Accreditation is of considerable importance
to the program of theological study of The Lutheran
Church—Missouri Synod; and
Wuereas, The Synod is committed to such a program
of quality education at its seminaries and colleges and
has sought to follow a precise program of preparation for
Proper accreditation, always keeping in mind that it
wants and needs to exercise doctrinal supervision over
these institutions; and
WHEREas, Presently a probation still exists on the
accreditation of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis; and
Wuereas, The Board of Control, the administration,
and the faculty of Concordia Seminary have made every
effort to maintain a Program that meets and exceeds the
Association of Theological Schools standards; therefore
be it
Resolved, That the Synod in convention direct the
Board for Higher Education, the Boards of Control, the
administration, and the faculties of both seminaries and
all its colleges to continue to maintain the highest stand-
ards for accreditation; and be it finally
Resolved, That the Board of Control of Concordia
Seminary take whatever immediate action necessary to
remove the probation and, above all, keep its goals,
purposes, and curriculum in keeping with the Holy Scrip-
tures and the Confessions.
Action: This resolution died since it failed to receive
action before adjournment.
