RESOLUTIONS 173
To Encourage Improvement in
Television Programing and
Educational Materials
RESOLUTION 9-16
Overtures 9-11, 9-25 (CW, pp. 411, 414)
Wuereas, The content of many television programs,
as well as that of some of the educational material used
in public schools, may well contribute to the moral decay
of viewers and may adversely affect the minds and faith
of our youth with views that are contrary to the clear
teachings of Holy Scripture; therefore be it
Resolved, That all members of the Synod be urged to
exercise their Christian and civic responsibility to en-
courage the presentation of only such television pro-
grams and the use of such educational material in public
schools as will contribute to the moral and civic uplift of
our citizenry and youth.
Action: This resolution died since it failed to receive
action before adjournment.
To Suggest Mission Affirmations
as Possible Theme for the
1977 Convention
RESOLUTION 9-17
Overture 9-05 (CW, p. 410)
Wuereas, Our Lord has commanded, “Go therefore
and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit”; and
Wuereas, There is danger that amid our manifold
concerns and our current controversies we may fail to
give Christ’s mission our primary devotion of time and
energy; and
Wuereas, The Mission Affirmations, which summon
us to God’s mission, as adopted in Detroit in 1965 were
unanimously reaffirmed at the 50th synodical convention
in New Orleans; therefore be it
Resolved, That the President of the Synod consider
the Mission Affirmations as a possible theme and thrust
for Bible study and for mission information and inspira-
tion at the 1977 convention of The Lutheran Church—
Missouri Synod.
Action: This resolution died since it failed to receive
action before adjournment.
To Encourage Financial Support
for the Rebuilding of
Landmarks in Perry County
RESOLUTION 9-18
Overture 9-28 (CW, pp. 414—415)
Wuereas, The matter of rebuilding historic land-
marks in Perry County, Mo., was referred to the Concor-
dia Historical Institute in Resolution 11-05 (Denver Con-
vention, 1971); therefore be it
Resolved, That we encourage the CHI to continue
evaluating the needs and opportunities for such rebuild-
ing; and be it further
Resolved, That institutions, congregations, and indivi-
duals be encouraged to contribute funds for rebuilding
and restoration.
Action: This resolution died since it failed to receive
action before adjournment.
To Retain Review of
Conference Essays
RESOLUTION 9-19
Overture 9-20 (CW, p. 413)
Wuereas, Articles 4.111 and 4.113 of the Handbook
require that the essays and minutes of official pastoral
and teachers conferences be submitted to a District
committee for review and that this committee report its
findings to the District convention; and
Wuereas, The difficulties involved are not insur-
mountable; therefore be it
Resolved, That Overture 9-20 be declined.
Action: This resolution died since it failed to receive
action before adjournment.
To Expedite Convention Business

Overtures 9-06—9-08 (CW, pp. 410—411); N.O. Res.
11-08, 11-10, 11-11
Wuereas, The Convention Format Committee report
(CW, pp. 427—428) has in its proposed “Standing Rules”

changes requested in Overtures 9-06, 9-07, and 9-08; and
WueErEAS, The other suggested changes could not be
implemented in time for this convention but might apply
to future conventions; therefore be it
