finally

Resolved, That the Synod’s Board of Parish Education

To Mandate Continued Production
of Education Curriculum

RESOLUTION 7-19

Report 7-01 (CW, p. 363—374); N.O. Res. 7-03, 7-12,
7-13 7-23

Wuereas, The Handbook of the Synod authorizes the
Board of Parish Education to provide curricular re-
sources for the educational mission of the church (Hand-
book 7.25); and

Wuereas, The mounting economic pressures and a
drastically reduced editorial staff on the Board of Parish
Education makes it more difficult for the Board of Parish
Education to carry out this important function; therefore
be it

Resolved, That the Synod in convention reaffirm its
mandate to the Board of Parish Education nevertheless
to plan and direct the production of materials necessary
to carry out an effective program of parish education, to
provide a comprehensive program of leadership training
materials, and to provide periodical literature such as
story papers and devotional literature for children and
periodicals for youth and adults.

Action: Adopted (12).

To Study Use of Bible
and Catechism Versions
in Educational Materials

’ RESOLUTION 7-20
Overture 7-16 (CW, p. 389)

Wuereas, The concurrent use in our Synod of several
translations or versions of the Bible and of Luther’s
Small Catechism may be causing some confusion (e.g.,
memory work); and

Wuereas, The Synod has never designated any trans-
lation or version of the Bible as the official translation
for exclusive use in the Synod (CW. CTCR report, App. 3-
O1F, pp. 50—55); and

Wuereas, The Synod has authorized for use at least
two English translations of Luther’s Small Catechism;
and

Wuereas, In the interest of uniformity the Board of
Parish Education and Concordia Publishing House are

now consistently using the Revised Standard Version
and the 1967 intersynodical translation of the Catechism
in educational materials; therefore be it

Resolved, That for the immediate future the Board of
Parish Education and Concordia Publishing House con-
tinue their current practice in the publishing of these
educational materials and that they give this concern
ongoing attention.

Action: Adopted (12).

To Decline to Direct CPH to Publish
Dr. Wm. Beck’s Translation
of the Old Testament

RESOLUTION 7-21
Overture 7-27A—C (CW, p. 391)

Wuereas, The Commission on Church Literature and
the Board of Directors of Concordia Publishing House
after careful review of Dr. William Beck’s translation of
the Old Testament have determined that its publication,
in addition to being economically unsound, would be toa
great extent a duplication of the foundation-supported
New International Version to be published by Zonder-
van; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Synod respectfully decline Over-
tures 7-27 A, 7-27 B, and 7-27C.

Action: Adopted (12).

To Utilize Concordia
Catechism Filmstrips

RESOLUTION 7-22
Overture 7-17 (CW, p. 389)

Wuereas, The “Christian Faith and Life” filmstrips
(CPH Cat. No. 79-101 to 79-104) were allowed to go out
of print 4 years ago for lack of consumer demand; and

Wuereas, The subject matter of these filmstrips de-
veloped in 1947, 1951, 1952, and 1953 is covered in the
available new filmstrips correlated to the “Concordia
Catechism Series”; therefore be it

Resolved, That pastors and teachers be encouraged to
utilize filmstrips of the “Concordia Catechism Series” as
a means of enriching their teaching of these basic tenets
of the Christian faith.

Action: Adopted (12).

ored to have the Secretary send letters of thanks. These
