158 RESOLUTIONS

the synodical Handbook as may result from the discon-
tinuance of Der Lutheraner and of the Lutheran Witness
Reporter as a separate publication.

Action: Adopted (3).

To Encourage Subscriptions to
the Lutheran Witness

RESOLUTION 7-08

Report 7-05; Overtures 7-35, 7-36A, 7-36B (CW, pp.
380—381, 393)

Wuereas, The purpose of the Lutheran Witness is to
inform members of the Synod about the work of carrying
out the objects of the Synod, such as conservation and
promotion of the unity of the true faith, the joint exten-
sion of the kingdom of God, the training of professional
workers in the church, on a national and international
level; and

Wuereas, The Witness District Editions present addi-
tional information concerning the local work of the
Synod; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Synod in convention appeal to the
Board of Directors and congregations of each District,
especially those where the percentage of homes receiving
the Witness and the District Edition is low, to consider
ways and.means of encouraging subscriptions to our
official synodical periodical so that the members of the
Synod are informed about and motivated to participate
more fully in the work of the Synod.

Action: Adopted as amended (8).
(“and congregations” was added to the resolved.)

To Encourage Attendance
at Youth Gatherings

RESOLUTION 7-09
Overture 7-31 (CW, p. 392); N.O. Res. 7-25

Wuereas, Large Lutheran youth gatherings and pro-
grams can provide experiences that are Christ-centered
and spiritually rewarding; and

Wuereas, Such gatherings and programs involving
the youth and adults of the Synod are to be developed
and conducted within the fellowship principles of the
Synod; and

Wuereas, The persons responsible for planning the
1976 All Lutheran Youth/Adult Gathering have given
the assurance that they are mindful of the legitimate
concern that the program and speakers are such as will
provide genuine opportunity for positive Christian
growth; therefore be it

Resolved, That the youth and adults of the Synod be
encouraged to participate in such Lutheran youth gath-
erings and programs (e.g., the 1976 All Lutheran
Youth/Adult Gathering) where the Synod’s fellowship
principles are observed; and be it further

Resolved, That our Districts and circuits be encour-
aged to arrange youth gatherings and programs at their
levels.

Action: Adopted as amended (8).
(The final resolved was added by amendment.)

To Educate for Mission
and Promote the
Program of the Synod

RESOLUTION 7-10
Report 4-08, II (CW, p. 171—172)

Wuereas, A thorough evaluation of the Synod’s mis-
sion education program has been carried on during the
past biennium by a special study action team, the Stew-
ardship Board and staff, and through semiannual re-
gional meetings of District stewardship leaders; and

Wuereas, The mission education program has been
restyled, and field testing has shown it to be interesting
and appealing to users, effective in communicating de-
sired concerns and vital mission concepts, pointing to-
ward desired educational outcomes, and challenging
Christians and the congregations to place their natural
and spiritual endowments at the Lord’s disposal for His
world mission; and

Wuereas, A growing field force has been developed,
including specifically selected and trained appointees, as
well as regular District stewardship leaders, to give
special attention to “education for mission”, and

Wuereas, It has been found that the current mission
education program makes possible a large enough mar-
ket so that quality mission education products can be
produced for purchase, if reasonable cooperation is re-
ceived from pastors and congregations; therefore be it

Resolved, That the present mission education program
and promotion of the synodical program and services be
intensified and expanded to inform and inspire the Syn-
od’s members for vigorous involvement in their Christ-
given mission; and be it further

Resolved, That the Department of Stewardship be
enabled, with staffing and funding during the next 2
years, to pilot annual regional “mission conferences,” as
other denominations have done in mission promotion,
and be it further

Resolved, That congregations and Districts be urged
to select qualified mission education representatives and
send them annually to leaders’ “skillshops” for ongoing
training about the ever-changing mission scene; and be it
further

Resolved, That congregations be urged to make use of
the wide variety of mission education materials offered
through the Department of Stewardship, so that a mar-
ket allowing production of materials at a reasonable cost
continues to exist and quality mission education tools
can continue to be produced; and be it finally

Resolved, That all congregational materials be sent to
congregations rather than the pastors.

Action: Adopted as amended (9).

(This resolution was introduced in Session 8. The final
resolved was added by amendment.)
