Director of Christian Education

RESOLUTION 6-16A
(Replacing Resolution 6-16)
Overture 6-125 (CW, p. 354)

Wuereas, There is an increasing demand from con-
gregations of the Synod for the services of a director of
Christian Education and no parameters for this office
have been outlined, making it difficult for local congrega-
tions in determining their reasonable expectations for
this called minister; and

Wuereas, The academic institutions of the Synod are
in need of direction in the preparation of specific courses
leading to a degree with specific qualifications for this
unique ministry; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Board for Higher Education per-
form the following services:

1. Prepare guidelines to assist the Synod in its under-
standing of the function of a director of Christian

To Designate Graduate School
and Faculty Training Program

RESOLUTION 6-17

Overtures 6-143, 6-144 (CW, pp. 359—360)

Wuereas, There is a constant need for faithful and
learned servants of Jesus Christ and His church who can
serve as professors and teachers; and

great blessings when those who train our future pastors
and teachers receive their postgraduate theological edu-
cation in a confessional Lutheran seminary; and

cated willingness to develop a program and center for
advanced work in theology; and

graduate theological institution could be a source of
blessing to us and also to faithful ministers, teachers,
and scholars in other Lutheran and Christian fellow-
ships; therefore be it

Resolved, That we encourage Concordia Seminary, St.
Louis, to develop an expanded graduate school of theol-
ogy which could serve as a center for confessional schol-

tion to work together with the seminary in this worthy
and ambitious project.

To Support Autonomy of
Boards of Control

RESOLUTION 6-18
Overture 6-26 (CW, p. 326)

Wuereas, The Boards of Control of our colleges and
seminaries are vital to the confessional faithfulness and
integrity of our institutions; and

Wuereas, These boards are composed of clergy, teach-
ers, and laity who are well acquainted with local condi-
tions in church and state; and

Wuereas, Secular influences and pressures of public
relations have sometimes challenged the specific
churchly and spiritual concerns and actions of these
responsible leaders; therefore be it

Resolved, That we commend our Boards of Control for
their faithful concern and actions on behalf of Christian
higher education in the Lutheran confessional tradition.
