176 Proceedings of the Forty-Third Convention,
We furthermore recognize with thanks to God the services
of Rev. E. L. Wilson, who has acted in the capacity of secretary
for more than 25 years, and who has now succeeded Pastor Walther
as chairman of the Missionary Board. We beseech God to grant
him a full measure of wisdom and knowledge for this task.
We furthermore recognize with thanks to God the faithful
services of Mr. Chas. E. Groerich, who has been treasurer of the
Missionary Board for the past 15 years, and who found it necessary
to relinquish these duties because of other synodical work. He has
been succeeded by his able assistant, Mr. Russell E. Rolling.
We also acknowledge with grateful hearts the advice and
counsel of Mr. Wm. Lottmann, who served faithfully as a member
of the Missionary Board for many years, and whom the Lord
called to his eternal home on July 4, 1954.
We also commend the other members of the Missionary Board
and the efficient leadership of its executive secretary, Dr. Karl
Kurth.
The convention acknowledges with grateful appreciation the
auditing work performed gratis by Mr. C. W. Toenes.
The convention acknowledges with sincere thanks the gift of
$20,000 received from an anonymous donor for the erection of
chapels and other educational buildings in our Nigerian mission
eld,
The convention also deeply appreciates the substantial gift
promised by the International Walther League for a dormitory
at our Normal School in Nigeria.
We thank God for all the faithful workers in the domestic
field, who have labored untiringly for the advancement of God’s
kingdom among all people.
Action by the convention: Adopted.
Greetings to African Lutheran Church
The Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference, in convention
assembled at East Detroit, Mich., August 10—13, 1954, sends greet-
ings to our brothers and sisters in the African Lutheran Church,
rejoicing with them over the blessings which God in His mercy
has bestowed upon all of us through Jesus Christ, our Savior, in
leading us out of darkness into His marvelous light, and encour-
aging one another to continue faithfully in His Word, for then we
are His disciples indeed, and we shall know the truth and the truth
shall make us free.
Action by the convention: Adopted.
Workers in the African Field
We thank God for the faithful workers in the African Field,
mindful of their devoted service and their zealous patience under
extreme hardships, grateful unto the Lord of the church for the
numerous blessings which He has bestowed upon their diligent
labors. We also take cognizance of the consecrated services which
their beloved wives have rendered the church in their respective
positions. We joyfully praise our God that His work in Africa has
so developed that the church is well on the road toward becoming
an indigenous church, prepared to stand firm and to move forward
in the years ahead.
