Ev. Luth. Synodical Conference -of North America, 1954 188

This growth ‘is largely credited to ‘our kindergarten ‘and parochial
school. Co : ‘ ;

The congregation has purchased a parsonage across the street
from the school campus. This investment was made possible by
the help of the Missionary Board in the amount of $4,000, a loan
to the congregation. oe"

We believe there would be a more rapid growth if the con-
gregation could have its own church building. It is our prayer
that we can have that in the near future. There are many souls
to be won for Christ in the city of. Selma, and we entreat you to
pray with us that souls may be added to His Church daily,

. Wm. H. Grirren
St. Timothy, East Selma, Ala.

Pastor: A® Gianvittorio Teachers: Mrs. B. E. Skinner
a Mrs. Nancy T. Coles

Much of the progress which has been made in St. Timothy Lu-
theran Church is due to the faithful services of Mrs. B. E. Skinner,

When we came to the congregation as its pastor in 1952, we,
with the efforts and the labors of the Missionary Board and co-
workers in East Sélma, began to think about the improvements
and enlargement of the congregation. When we assumed charge
of the congregation, we found a large Sunday school enrollment
with only a small number attending, the school then numbering
about 56 persons. We found 200 or more souls, or baptized mem-
bers, on our records, but only a few of them were working
members. In the year 1952 we began to work with the children,
the young people and the adults, to expand the congregation. We
had a number of children in the confirmation class. We began
a general visitation program with the Christian day school and
Sunday school children, besides adults of the congregation. From
1952 until 1954 we baptized 38 children and 2 adults. During this
time, we also confirmed six children. Our Sunday school enroll-
ment increased to an average attendance of 70.

Beginning with the school term of September, 1953, the Chris-
tian day school expanded to two teachers and 86 pupils. The growth
of the school will be improved considerably with our new, modern
plant. From 1934 until the present time, the building, which we
now occupy, was used both for the Christian day school and the
church, and we also rented quarters to accommodate the Christian
-day school until we can complete the new building. project. In
the past year, the members of St. Timothy’s have worked toward
a new church and school. After much discussion and much hard
labor, the congregation bought a piece of property situated on
Magazine and Division Sts. to erect the new church and school.
At a meeting held on March 25, 1954, it was finally decided that
the building contract should be given to George Wilson and the
‘building be begun at once. The structure will be of brick-
‘veneer and concrete blocks. We hope the church will be dedicated
before the time of the Synodical Conference convention.

The women of the congregation, through their Ladies’ Aid So-~
ciety, are raising money with which to purchase a new organ.
These faithful women are interested not only in their own local
congregation, but in the mission endeavors of the churches in
‘Alabama and Africa.
