136 Proceedings of the Forty-Third Convention,

46 to 30. The communicant membership has dropped from 28 to 12.
This church is served once a month by the missionary. We can-
not neglect these precious souls, who have remained loyal to us
despite the persuadings of the Baptists, who far outnumber us in
this area. If transportation could be provided, we could bring these
people to the church in Camden or Rockwest. Such a plan would
help all concerned. M. K. Harcens

Mount Carmel, Rosemary Place, Ala.

Mount Carmel Church is located about 15 miles northwest of
Camden, Ala. It was organized thirty-seven years ago by our
pioneer mission worker, Miss Rosa Young. This congregation, like
many others, has seen better days. Migration to industrial centers
is continuing to deplete our ranks at Mount Carmel. Thirty-six
baptized souls have dwindled to 27 in the last five years, even
though nine have been baptized during this time. The Sunday
school, which numbered 25 five years ago, now has only twelve
enrolled. Five have been confirmed in the past five years. We
rejoice that Mount Carmel will send one of its girls to our Selma
Academy next fall to prepare to be a Christian day school teacher.
These rural congregations may seem to be too expensive for the
mission treasury, but they are providing us with most of our
kingdom workers. M. K. Harcens

Mount Calvary, Tilden, Ala,
Pastor: M. K. Hargens Teacher: Mr. Percy Herzfeld

Mount Calvary Congregation is 35 years old. Diversified farm-
ing and cattle raising have also left their marks on this congre-
gation. Nearly all the former members have gone to the cities.
Our day school, taught by a gifted and consecrated young man of
the congregation, is making strides forward in this very strong
Baptist community. For this reason Mount Calvary has had an
increase of 12 baptized souls since 1949. In five years 29 have been
baptized and 18 confirmed. There are 62 children in our school
and 63 in our Sunday school. Several of the school’s graduates,
who have come from Baptist homes, are now preparing to be Lu-
theran ministers. Mount Calvary is doing an exceptionally good
job of supplying our church with workers. There has also been
a healthy increase in contributions and: mission offerings.

Pastor: S. L. Gailes Teachers:
Catherine: Mrs. Augusta Griffin
Bashi: Miss Rosie Montgomery
Nyland: Mrs. M. L. Bradley
Pine Hill: Miss Mamie Grayson
In the Catherine community we have a large number of chil-
dren who, we trust, will be won for the Church. Most of our mem-
bers are home owners.
At Vineland, though most of our members are home owners
and farmers, we have very few children.
Nearly all our members at Bashi have moved away; however,
we still maintain a day school to serve the sixteen children of Lu-.
