THEOLOGICAL MATTERS 91
casual intrusion of errors, provided these are combated
and eventually removed by means of doctrinal discipline,
Acts 20:30; 1 Tim. 1:3.
and be it further
Resolved, That on the basis of Holy Scripture we
reject that which both it and the Brief Statement reject,
especially at this time that found rejected in paragraphs
3, 5, and 28:
We reject the doctrine which under the name of science
has gained wide popularity in the Church of our day that
Holy Scripture is not in all its parts the Word of God, but
in part the word of man and hence does, or at least might,
contain error.
We reject every doctrine which denies or limits the
work of creation as taught in Scripture. In our days it is
denied or limited by those who assert, ostensibly in def-
erence to science, that the world came into existence
through a process of evolution. ...
We repudiate unionism, that is, church-fellowship with
the adherents of false doctrine, as disobedience to God’s
command, as causing divisions in the Church, Rom. 16:17;
2 John 9, 10, and as involving the constant danger of los-
ing the Word of God entirely, 2 Tim. 2:17-21.

To Reaffirm Doctrinal Position
of “Brief Statement”
Wuereas, The Brief Statement is a faithful. concise
presentation of Scriptural teaching in vital areas; and
Whereas, It covers many of the areas which are in
controversy in our church body; therefore be it
Resolved, That The Lutheran Church — Missouri
Synod, in its 1969 Denver convention, reaffirm the doc-
trinal position of the Brief Statement and exercise
proper, God-pleasing discipline with those who reject,
in any way, the Brief Statement.
Rev. Rosert J. Lietz
Stover, Mo.

To Require Assent to “Brief Statement”
Whereas, The assembled convention of The Lutheran
Church — Missouri Synod at New York in 1967 adopted
“A Declaration on the Status and Use of Synodically
Adopted Doctrinal Statements,” Resolution 2-04, which
document says in part:
Resolved, That the Synod beseech all its members by the
mercies of God to honor and uphold the doctrinal content
of these synodically adopted statements.
and
WuereaS, The Brief Statement of the Doctrinal Posi-
tion of the Missouri Synod is one of those synodically
adopted statements: and
WHEREAS, The Brief Statement speaks so clearly and
forcefully concerning those doctrines which today some
have denied and thereby have brought divisions, dis-
sentions, and disharmony into our Synod; therefore
be it
Resolved, That all pastors, professors, teachers, and
congregations of our Synod give assent to the doctrines
as set forth in the Brief Statement; and be it further
Resolved, That all members of the Synod who find
that they are not in agreement with the Scriptural posi-
tion of our Synod as expressed in the Brief Statement
seek fellowship with those with whom they are in
agreement; and be it finally
Resolved, That the President of the Synod, the Dis-
trict Presidents, the Circuit Counselors, and the Boards
of Control of our institutions be instructed to take
disciplinary action against all pastors, professors, teach-
ers, and congregations who teach contrary to the Scrip-
tural position of our Synod as set forth in the Brief
Statement, Rev, JouN J. McREE

To Include Laymen in
Theological Conferences
Wuereas, It has been the historical position of The
Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod always to include
laymen in theological discussions; and
Whereas, It is of great importance that there be a
wide understanding of the theological issues that face
our church; therefore be it
Resolved, That theological conferences involving pas-
tors, teachers, and laymen be held under District aus-
pices; and be it further
Resolved, That the California and Nevada District
President’s office prepare guidelines for such confer-
ences; and be it finally
Resolved, That the California and Nevada District
memorialize the Synod at Denver that such conferences
be held throughout the church.

To Approve Revised Rules of
Inter-Lutheran Commission
on Worship
Wuereas, The Synod approved the organizational
rules for the Inter-Lutheran Commission on Worship
at its New York convention, thereby giving consent to
the goals and operational principles of this inter-
synodical venture; and
Wuereas, Minor changes in these organizational
rules from time to time become necessary and should
receive action on behalf of the Synod without having
to await the convention of the Synod; and
Wuereas, Other participating synods have provision
for such action, viz., by their executive councils; and
WuereEas, Worship properly comes under the su-
