THE LUTHERAN PIONEER.
author expects these Outlines to be developed by the cate-
chist he shows by means of an example in a masterly man-
ner. The perusal of a number of the outlines has con-
vinced us that they are practical, reasonably exhausting,
and logical. The Technique of Questioning, which com-
prises the second part of the book, gives the catechist
some invaluable information and directions on the art of
questioning. Into less than forty pages the author has
succeeded in compressing volumes. F. J. L.

Concorpia PusLisHina House, St. Louis, Mo,
OUR MISSIONARY NEGRO.
Kneeling suppliant, with hands uplift,
The silent missionary pleads;
Seeking modestly nor alms nor gifts
For mortal bodies’ various needs.
Waiting patiently on shelf or stand
For gifts to save his dying race,
Bowing gratefully to gen’rous hand,
He thus for years has held his place.
Missionary Negro, lift up thy face,
In niche, on mantle, or on rail.
Willingly we grant thee thy modest space;
May thy appeal for, help avail!
Silent monitor, thy lesson teach
That with true missionary heart,
Faithful, patient, we may beseech
The Lord salvation to impart,
Granting graciously the Gospel’s pow’r
To warm our hearts, increase our zeal.
Dark-hued missionary, thus hour by hour
Kneeling, offer thy mute appeal.
