heathen because of what you owe to Christ because
He redeemed you with His precious blood. I warn
you that it will go hard with you when your Lord
comes to reckon with you, if He finds your wealth
hoarded up in needless accumulations instead of
being sacredly devoted to giving the Gospel to
the lost.” — A. J. Gorpon.

The Possibilities of Our Seed. — When John
Williams went out to the South Sea, he carried
with him a few choice bananas from the hothouses
of the Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth. On
arrival they had become a mass of rotten pulp and
were thrown away as useless and worthless. Out
of them, however, there sprang one plant of vigor
and fruitfulness; and the product, being resown,
was the origin of the common banana of the South
Sea that still holds its own. — Thus one or two
words spoken by us for Jesus may, by God’s grace,
bring forth a hundredfold.

A Christian Business Man. — In a certain
Western city the president of a large insurance
company called together his large office force one
day and said to them: “I’m your employer, but
Vm also a Christian and your friend, and I want
to ask you, if you are not already right with God,
to give the subject your earnest consideration.” In
speaking of the incident at a later day, he said:
“From that day to this there has been a new spirit

among our employees, a spirit of kindliness and
cooperation. Many of the girls in our employ made
a confidant of my private secretary, who was an
elderly Christian woman, and were helped by her
counsel and sympathy. Nearly the entire oflice
force are now Christians.”

The Scriptures in China and Japan. —In the
circulation of the Bible, China and Japan are said
to be actually ahead of us. The last
records show that the annual sale in China and
Japan was 2,868,605, as against 2,395,000 in our
country. In 1923 the increase of sales over the
previous year in the sale of the Bible was 30 per cent.

Missionary Efforts Are Not Charity. — I «am
astonished to find Christians so often referring to
all their missionary efforts as charity. A missionary
sermon is a charity sermon. Charity indeed! ITere
is a world of guilty rebels, and the world’s God has
put into the hands of men pardoned and saved by
mercy a proclamation of mercy and pardon to all
who will accept it and has given a solemn injunc-
tion to go and proclaim it to the ends of the earth,
to every creature, to each rebel, and these pardoned

rebels think it in themselves a charity to do so;
and this proclamation has been in their possession
eighteen centuries, and yet one half of mankind has
even now scarcely heard distinctly of it, so in-
dolently and carelessly have successive generations
done their duty. — Robert Morrison.
