Mount Zion, 6 Miles East, China Grove, N.C.

A rural church located on a paved highway. Very small with
no prospects of growth. This congregation owns its property and
has plans for improving it. Souls, 23; communicants, 14; voters, 6;
Sunday school, 13; collections for the year, $293. Services twice
a month,

Grace, Greensboro, N.C.
Rev. J. A. Hunt, Pastor

Here we have a representative building consisting of a chapel
and two classrooms for parochial school. The chapel serves the
student body of Immanuel Lutheran College as well as the local
congregation; and seats are usually at a premium at the Sunday
morning service. We have been thinking about how to enlarge
the seating space without marring the beauty of the building. One
of the big efforts of this small. congregation has been the purchase
of two lots adjoining the church for $1,600. The congregation had
to purchase these lots so the school children would have at least
a small space to play. Prospects are good, and the congregation
is growing. During the last year three adults were received by
Baptism, four by confirmation, and eleven children were received
into the Kingdom of Grace by Holy Baptism.

Grace, Concord, N.C.
Rev. Melvin H. Holsten, Pastor

Grace Church is growing and thriving in numbers and in
spirituality. It is the Wittenberg of Negro Lutheranism in the
Southeastern District and is exercising a fine influence in the com-
munity. A modest subsidy for Teacher John L. McDowell and
Mrs. Wilma S. Lindsay is the only assistance received from the
Missionary Board.

Mount Calvary, Mount Pleasant, N.C.

This rural church, which is served twice a month by Pastor
Holsten, has a fine frame church but a dwindling membership.
There is no opportunity for growth. We suggest that the frame
parsonage adjoining the church be sold and that the funds realized
be apportioned to Church Extension Loans in the Southeastern

istrict.

St. James, Southern Pines, N.C.
Rev. J. E. Shufelt, Pastor ’

The Southern Pines congregation has only held her own in
membership during the biennium, but she has shown a very com-
mendable loyalty and a steady growth in the grace of giving, both
for the needs at home and the work abroad.

A small parish house with living quarters for the pastor has
been erected of brick and tile construction, and the debt thereon
has now been reduced to $540. Interest in re-establishing a day
