The mission of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League
is to assist each woman of
The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod

in affirming her relationship with the Triune God
so that she is enabled to use her gifts
in ministry to the people of the world.

The LWML, an official auxiliary of the LCMS is committed to
touching the lives of all LCMS women, and therefore the church, in
several ways. We provide opportunities and resources for spiritual
enrichment, a greater mission awareness and personal commitment
to service. As Lutheran women in mission we can and do make a
significant difference for our Lord.

In June 2003, the Board of Directors adopted the following tar-
gets and goals for the 2003-2005 biennium. A sampling of activi-
ties that address these targets are listed:

Primary Target: Spiritual Living
Each woman’s life is reflecting Jesus’ love as she is nourished
by the Word.

Activities include: redesign Mustard Seeds, Bible study on men-
toring, a package of mite devotions, new Marriage Matters, new
greeting cards, retreats, resources, and program helps.

Primary Target: Partnering for Diversity

Our oneness in Christ is strengthened through intentionally
teaming with our LCMS sisters of varied ethnic, cultural, genera-
tional, and organizational backgrounds.

Activities include: multicultural pre-convention gathering for
African-American, Hispanic, and Hmong women, Scripture cards
as a witness tool, helps for hosting a mission fair, ministering to
women in prison resource packet, and multicultural membership
packets.

Primary Target: Servant Response
Each woman guided by the Spirit, is actively investing herself
in demonstrating Christ’s love.

Activities include: Retreat in a (CD) Box, redesign Jeans Gems,
Buddy Check system to those living or feeling alone, revised pro-
gram helps, E-News, image ads, and Web page evangelism tips.

Primary Target: Training Leaders

The LWML of the future is blessed with leaders who confi-
dently and competently fulfill their responsibilities.

Activities include: contacting district counterparts by LWML
committees, MMV monthly e-mails and booklet of shared ideas,
Leader Development Web page, and hosting a Leadership for To-
morrow 2004 event.

“Knowing Christ and Making Him Known” is the mission of
the Quarterly, the official publication of the LWML. Individual or
group subscriptions are available through the LWML Office.

The LWML met in convention June 19-22, 2003, in Oklahoma
City, Okla., where over 4,500 women gathered to be nourished by
the Word, to select new mission grants, elect new officers, and to
celebrate under the theme, Lord of my heart...our Hope.

Other Goals and Accomplishments:

“In June 2003, the LWML hosted its first cross-cultural pre-con-
vention event for 24 Hispanic and African-American women in
a “Heart to Heart Sisters Gathering.”

2004 Convention Workbook

* In the 2001-2003 biennium, although the goal was not reached,
the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League received more in
mites than in any previous biennium.

* Our mission goal for 2003-2005 is $1,575,000, which includes
$982,139.11 for current mission grants and $120,360.89 for
grants from the previous biennium that were not fully funded.

¢ In response to the world situation the LWML produced greeting
cards for members of the military and the new devotionals, “As
His Hands” and “By His Side” for those in law enforcement and
military spouses respectively. These have been. well received, es-
pecially by the chaplains.
