Ev. Luth: Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States. 1923. 55

Intersynodical Hymnal. — A request had been made to Synod to
“join other Lutheran synods not in doctrinal unity with us in publisb-
ing aD English hymn-book that might be used by all these bodies.
Synod passed the following resolution: “We cannot participate in this
undertaking because, among other reasons, our present hymnal is so
firmly established in our congregations that we cannot introduce
a new one at this time.”

Literary Board. — Synod resolved to request the Literary Board
- to sean old synodical reports and reproduce in English such reports

as are of great merit. co.

Publication of a United States History. — Since 1890 Synod
passed resolutions at eight different sessions to publish such a history,
but the resolutions were never carried out. This seems to show that
the project is not feasible. There is good reason to believe that
a history of the United States that will approximately meet our re-

uirements will soon be on the market. It was therefore resolved
that the General School Board be. requested by Synod to scan the
market and recommend a suitable United States History.

English Readers for Our Parochial Schools. — Publication of
a new series of English readers was requested. Resolved that the
General School Board select a suitable series of readers now on the
market and have it so amended, revised, and edited that it will meet
our peculiar requirements.

English History of the Lutheran Church in America.—The ques-
tion of publishing such a work was referred to the Literary Board
for immediate action. ;

German Grammar. — Synod instructed Concordia Publishing
House to publish a short German grammar containing the principal
rules of German grammar and the necessary exercises.

Amalgamation of “Lutheran Witness,” “Walther League Mes-

_senger,’ and “Concordia Junior Messenger.” — Resolved to take no
action in this matter at the present time, 1. because not all these
periodicals are publications of Synod, 2. because they serve their own
peculiar interests. .

Enlargement of Our Official Organs. — Instead of enlarging the
Lutheraner and the Witness, Synod instructed Concordia Publishing
House to provide additional space in the Lutheraner and the Lutheran
Witness for missionary reports and other suitable reading-matter in
simple language for the young and rather to discontinue the publica-
tion of detailed acknowledgments of the District and other treasurers.

Bible Revision. — Synod was requested to provide for a Lutheran .
revision of the English Bible. Synod recommended that Rev. H. J.
Stechholz submit this jnatter to the faculty of Concordia Seminary,
St.Louis. —
