_ MISSIONS.
Home Missions in North America,
(Report of the Board. Germ. Rep., p. 86.)
Although the work of Home Missions in North America does not
show the same numerical increase experienced in the past when thou-
sands of immigrants called for Lutheran pastors, still God has richly
blessed our efforts in this field. New territories have been opened in
States where we have been at work, as well as in. States where formerly
4 we had no workers. Old territories were strengthened. ‘Two mission-
districts have become synodical Districts. . Special attention has been
paid to work in the large cities. Missionaries and traveling pastors
contributed to the blessed Progress of this work. i
Complete statistics are not available; six Districts. and two mis-
‘Sions made no reports. Twenty reports . were received. They. show
1,073 preaching-stations and mission-congregations, an increase of 75;
‘109 congregations which became self-supporting; %7,876 souls, an in-
crease of 19,866; 39,077 communicants, an jnerease of 12,022; . 3,881
