Ev. Luth. Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States. 1923. 45
‘Forestalling Free Action of Synod.
(Germ. Rep., p. 144.)

{The petition for a “final definition of Synod’s policy in matters .
ing free action of Synod” was answered as. follows: —
“Though Synod does not wish to dampen the laudable zeal of
‘ous boards and individuals gathering contributions from congre-
ations and individuals for synodical institutions, but would rather
“embrace this opportunity of thanking the generous donors as well as
those who have taken the pains of collecting funds for Synod, yet
‘there is no doubt that ‘self-constituted bodies and boards acting be-
yond the authority vested in them’ have no right to organize donation
=: eampaigns. We desire, however, to state that no such cases have been
"proved, nor such as ‘forestall the free action of Synod. ”

English Language the Official Langua
; (Germ. Rep., p. 141.)
; In a memorial the request wag made that English be madé the
- official language of Synod. Synod’s reply was that the time for such
action had not yet come. For the present our congregations should
~be satisfied if all Districts, like the Gen

eral Body, grant the right to
use both languages on the floor of synod.

Amalgamation of the English District,
(Germ. Rep., p. 136.)

Tn view of the fact that the English language is rapidly becoming
the dominant language in all Districts, so that the present arrange-
ment of an English District scattered over -all parts of our vast
country in the midst of all other Districts is no longer nécessary, and
since greater -efficiency and harmony could: thereby be attained in

ynod’s great work, the Visitors of the Western District petitioned. .
