THE LUTHERAN PIONEER

BOOK TABLE.

(By the Eprror.)

Hausfreund-Kalender, 1933. Published by M. Will-
komm. Printed by Johannes Herrmann, Zwickau,
Saxony. Order from Concordia Publishing House,
St. Louis, Mo. Price, 20 cts.

This publication was founded by Dr. 0. Willkomm forty-
nine years ago. The reading-matter this annual offers is
truly Christian in spirit and of a high literary rank. We
have always had particular pleasure in reading the short
paragraphs given on the pages opposite the monthly cal-
endar. These paragraphs have been selected with great
care and are most edifying in character. The article on
“Homesickness” by the editor and that by a contributor
on “Luther’s Coat of Arms” are well written. The an-
nual has a special department for its younger readers.
It is published in the interest of the Saxon Free Church,
a body in affiliation with the Synodical Conference, and
contains much information about that organization.
Joy to the World. <A Christmas Service. Compiled by

Herman Voigt. Revised edition, 1932. Concordia
Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo. Price: Single
copies, 7 cts.; dozen, 72 cts.; 100, $5.00. Condensed
copy for congregation: $1.00 a hundred.

The Christmas-story is presented in the form of ques-
tions and answers. Some of the songs in this program
have never before been used in a published program. One
number, “Glory to God,” is an original composition by the
sainted Prof. J. L. Backhaus, while another, “In Bethlehem,
the Lowly,” is from the pen of the sainted Prof. Fritz Reu-
ter, also appearing in print for the first time. Those who
prefer a program in the form of questions and answers
will find this service above the average in quality.

Christmas Then and Now. A Christmas Service of
songs, responsive readings, and recitations for Sun-
day-schools. 1932. Published by Ernst Kaufmann,
7 Spruce St., New York; 209 S. State St., Chicago.
Price: Single copies, 8 cts.; dozen, 75 cts.; 100, $4.50.
Transportation extra on dozen and hundred lots.
Order from Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo.

By means of responsive Bible-readings and appropriate
recitations this program seeks to impress upon the chil-
dren and the whole congregation the meaning and the im-
portance of Christmas for us and our duty as recipients
of the Christmas blessings. Songs, readings, and recita-
tions are well selected.

Day by Day with Jesus. A Christian Calendar for 1933.
Edited by W. H. 7. Dau, D. D. Ernst Kaufmann, Inc.,
7—11 Spruce St., New York; 209 State St., Chicago.
Price, 60 cts. Order from Concordia Publishing House,
St. Louis, Mo.

This devotional annual consists of a block, or pad, of
365 sheets, printed on both sides, fastened to a stron;
cardboard back, on which is printed a beautifully colore

icture of the institution of the Lord’s Bupper. Each sheet
laces a short meditation on some carefully selected pas-
sage of Scripture, with an appropriate prayer, hymn yerse,
or anecdote. Day by Day with Jesus has done much in
past years to help erect home altars among us, and it is
our hope and prayer that it will find a welcome in new

homes in 1933.

NOTICE TO OUR SUBSCRIBERS.

In order to render satisfactory service, we must have our
current mailing-list correct. The expense of maintaining this
list has been materially increused. inder present regulations
we are subject to a “fine” on all parcels mailed to an incorrect
address, inasmuch as we must pay 2 cents for every notifica-
tion sent by the postmaster on a parcel or periodical which

getting three or more of our periodicals and considering our
large a, te subscription list, it may readily be seen that
it amounts to quite a sum during a year; for the postmaster
will address a notification to each individual periodical. Our
us—one notification
{postal card, costing only 1 cent) will take care of the ad-

resses for several publications. We shall be very grateful for
your cooperation.
