122 RESOLUTIONS

Resolved, That the petitions to divide the District
be declined; and be it also

Resolved, That the Board of Directors of the Synod
study the matter of the proposed division of the Atlantic
District according to the guidelines adopted at this
convention (Res. 4-03 and 4-04) and that the Board
of Directors of the Synod present a definite proposal
regarding the requested division of the Atlantic Dis-
trict to the 1971 convention of the Synod.

Action: Adopted as amended (16).

(The second resolved, as proposed by the floor committee,
had read: “That studies on the division of the District con-
tinue, bearing in mind the Suidelines adopted at this conven-
tion [4-03, 4-04].” In Session 13 an amendment was moved
and seconded giving authority to the synodical Board of Di-
rectors to divide the District. Since the constitutionality of
such an action was questioned, the assembly referred the
resolution back to the floor committee in consultation with
the Commission on Constitutional Matters. In Session 16 a
revised wording was substituted for the proposed amend-
ment. This amendment was accepted by the convention as
the final resolved and the entire amended resolution there-
upon adopted.)
