The Reverend Doctor John W. Behnken
RESOLUTION 13-22

Wuereas, The Reverend Doctor John W. Behnken
has by the goodness of God been permitted to serve our
beloved Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod as Presi-
dent for nine consecutive terms of three years each
(1935—1962); and

Wuereas, During these 27 years the Lord of the
church has showered benedictions upon our Synod too
numerous to count; and

Wuereas, Under Dr. Behnken’s faithful and conse-
crated leadership God has permitted the Synod to be-~
come an outstanding evangelical and courageous church
body, with the increasing responsibility of making her
Gospel-centered and Christ-exalting witness be felt
throughout Christendom and our world; and

Wuereas, The delegates to the 45th regular conven-
tion of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod, assem-
bled in Cleveland, Ohio, June 20—29, 1962, have
reluctantly acceded to the plea of the venerable theolo-
gian and churchman not to elect him to serve another
term as President; therefore be it

Resolved, That we acknowledge with sincere grati-
tude to God the marvelous gifts and graces bestowed
upon Dr. Behnken and the efficient and untiring manner
in which he has used his talents and abilities in carry-
ing out the manifold and complex leadership tasks of
his important and responsible office of guiding the
affairs of our Synod; and be it further

Resolved, That we manifest our gratitude and es-
teem for Dr. Behnken by declaring him Honorary Pres-
ident of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod for
life; and be it further

Resolved, That we beseech our heavenly Father to
bless our esteemed Honorary President with health and
zeal so that he may continue to serve the Synod faith-
fully and gladly; and be it finally

Resolved, That the Board of Directors be instructed

New York in 1967 — Denver in 1969. ‘‘We’re all happy.”
