The New Catechisms Faithful to Scripture
RESOLUTION 4-24
Memorial 330, pp. 159—161, Reports and Memorials

Wuereas, The sincere concern of our brother, cer-
tainly shared by those charged with the responsibility
of producing these catechisms, seems to be predicated

on a regrettable misunderstanding of the guide for
prospective catechism writers; and

Wuereas, These catechisms will be carefully and
prayerfully processed through the synodical censorial
procedure; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Synod direct the Catechism Com-
mittee of the Board of Parish Education to reexamine
its “Guide for Prospective Catechism Writers” with
a view to insuring that no door is left open for anti-
scriptural error; and be it further

Resolved, That we assure our concerned brother that
every precaution will be taken by the members of the
Board of Parish Education, its staff members, and the
Board’s Catechism Committee that the prospective new
catechisms will remain faithful to the Scriptures and
the Lutheran Confessions.

Report 401, VII, pp. 198,199, Reports and Memorials

Wuereas, Flagrant disregard of Christian moral
standards is everywhere evident and is erupting with
ever-increasing boldness in the world of entertainment
and the arts; and

Wuereas, The voice of history sounds the unmistak-
able warning that moral decay is a certain road to in-
dividual and national ruin; and

Wuereas, The sacred writers of Biblical times con-

Synod, which has demonstrated an intelligent approach
to this problem, through its subcommittee on Christian
morals in consultation with the Board of Social Wel-
fare, continue to give guidance and leadership in this
area to the end that —

boards, commissions, agencies, and societies; that
