80 THE LUTHERAN PIONEER.
the Young Lutherans’ Magazine felt just as we did about
the matter. Professor Polack has the rare gift of adapt-
ing himself to the child’s mind in his writing without
becoming childish. That is why children like.to read
what Professor Polack writes for them, and that is why
the publishers did a wise thing in reprinting these fifteen
interesting and informing sketches in book form. As our
children and we parents read these pages, the certainty
will more and more fill our hearts that our dear Lutheran
Church is indeed a “Great Church,” and that we owe
a great debt of gratitude to all those who helped build it
in this our country. We hope that many day-schools will
introduce the book as a text and that not a few Sunday-
schools will be helpful in distributing it. Though a little
early, the suggestion will not be out of place that The
Building of a Great Church would be a fine book to dis-
tribute at Christmas. We wish yet to mention that the
book has a profusion of illustrations.

This booklet contains much that will interest all those
who are interested in saving souls. We hope that the
authors of other excellent papers in the booklet will not
feel’hurt when we mention the following, not because they
are better than those we do not mention, but simply be-
cause they make a special appeal to us: The Passion for
Souls; Ministering to Various Types of Sick Persons in
Institutions; Woman’s Work, with Special Reference to
the Unmarried Mother and Delinquent Girl; The Care of
Neglected and Dependent Children.
In this connection we wish to call attention once more
to the paper which the Associated Lutheran Charities are
printing monthly for the use of city missionaries and
others in their missionary and hospital work. Pastors
can also use it in their eres . Order from Rev.
J. H. Witte, 1439 Melville Pl., Chicago, Ill. F.J.L,
