Services for report to the next convention was declined.)

To Observe Synod’s Sesquicentennial
in 1997
RESOLUTION 8-14
Overture L8-72 (TB, p. 18)
Rationale:
Since the Lutheran Heritage Committee has been work-
ing since 1985, based on a 1983 synodical resolution, to
prepare for the Walther and the Confessional Lutheran
Immigration Sesquicentennials in 1987 and 1989 respec-
tively, it is time to begin preparation for the Synod’s ses-
quicentennial in 1997. To wait until 1992 for a synodical
convention to memorialize in anticipation of the 150th an-
niversary would be pronouncedly late.
Resolved, That a committee be appointed by the Pres-
ident of the Synod, in order to suggest ways in which the
Synod, its agencies, and its congregations can observe the
sesquicentennial of The Lutheran Church—Missouri
Synod in 1997; and be it further
Resolved, That the Board of Directors be directed to
provide adequate funding so that this committee will have
resources to carry out its assigned task; and be it finally
Resolved, That the committee be instructed to be sen-
sitive to the contributions of black heritage in our Synod.
Action: Adopted as amended (12).
(The final resolve was added by amendment.)
