and Exclusive Language

RESOLUTION 2-12
Overtures 2-30-31 (CW, p. 162)

Wuereas, Language has power to shape thoughts, at-
titudes, and actions; and

Wuereas, The meaning of words in our society is con-
tinually changing; and

sponsibility to convey scriptural theology in a manner that
shows the value which God places on all through the Gos-
pel and also to use terminology in keeping with the Holy
Scriptures; and

Wuereas, The problem of inclusive and exclusive lan-
guage with regard to gender has arisen in our society and
within the church; therefore be it

Resolved, That we direct the Commission on Theology
and Church Relations (CTCR) to study the theological im-
plications of utilizing inclusive versus exclusive language
in our teaching, worship, and printed materials; and be it
further

Resolved, That the CTCR make a recommendation to
the church regarding this issue by the 1992 convention.

Action: Adopted (11).

was adopted after delegates agreed to cease debate on the matter.)

from it” (Prov. 22:6); and

dents are being served with this new curriculum; therefore

Publishing House on Its 120th::~
Anniversary

RESOLUTION 2-14
Report R2-06 (CW, pp. 51—54)

Wuereas, Concordia Publishing House (CPH), the of-
ficial publishing arm of The Lutheran Church—Missouri
Synod, has faithfully served the Synod since September
1869; and

Wuereas, CPH has, through the grace of God, been self-
sustaining, never having to rely on the Synod’s benevo-
lence in funding its publishing activities; and

Wuereas, CPH has contributed greatly to the world-
wide spreading of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the
distribution of many Bibles, books, curricula, worship re-
sources, and other items for Christian nurture; therefore
be it

God for the work of Concordia Publishing House as it cele-

blessings on all those whose lives are touched by its
mission.
