The starred items indicate that the goal has been
reached. With reference to Alabama Luther College
it is proper to mention that there was $10,000 on

hand for that institution before the Children’s Col- .

lection began. The children in those Districts who
‘were to gather the funds for the new college are
therefore still $6,000 behind their goal. ‘The new
‘buildings for Alabama Luther College will cost more
than the estimated $20,000. Of the $10,264.33 so
far collected for the chapel and school in St. Louis,
$6,500 was already on hand. The children of the
Western District have therefore only gathered about
$3,800 for this purpose. For Pine Hill one person
‘gave $1,000. Possibly there are people of means
also in other Districts who are willing to help the
‘children with a large gift. HELP THE CHIL-
DREN! C. F. Drewes.

Our Cincinnati Colored Mission.

The most difficult problem our Cincinnati Col-
ored Mission now is facing is the securing of a com-
petent teacher for the parochial school which we
intend to open this fall. The call-of our Colored
Mission Board for a teacher for Cincinnati could
not be favorably considered last May on account of
the-deplorable lack of candidates, for which we
are truly sorry. ‘I'o disappoint the many parents
who through our conversations on Christian edu-
cation and training have become convinced of the
blessings of a Christian day-school and promised,
in fact, are anxious, to send their children, will
mean quite a blow, humanly speaking, to our local

mission efforts. We, of course, have- not as yet
given up all hopes of securing a teacher. Our Board
in St. Louis is still seeking one, and there are at
the time of writing still six more weeks in which
to seek. May the Lord graciously lielp us to. be
successful and thus answer our prayers!

The call sounded in our periodicals and the pleas
made personally before teachers’ conferences for
used and new schoolbooks, have thus far been re-
sponded to by only two brethren, who sent us boxes:
of books in splendid condition, one from Minnesota,
the other from Pennsylvania. We still hope that
others will follow; for it will help our local Church
Federation more than many of our readers probably
think. Here in our city, schoolbooks are furnished!
gratis in the public schools; hence we must do the
same, otherwise we should fail to get the children.
Then, too, we make bold to ask for other good books,
