To Publish the Convention Workbook in Two Parts

WHEREAS, The boards and agencies of the Synod publish their
reports to the Synod every triennium; and

ports and overtures that are included in reports must be submitted

tures that are included in reports shall be received subsequent to

To Emphasize Celebration at Gatherings

WHEREAS, Jesus chose a diversity of disciples to reach the world
with his life-giving message and to appreciate others from a variety
of backgrounds; and

WHEREAS, Jesus uniquely used and magnificently molded these
few to work harmoniously together to turn the world upside down
in offering the blissful gift of eternal life through Him; and

WHEREAS, Jesus entreats and commands us to “love one another
as I have loved you” (John 15:12); and

WHEREAS, We are strongly instructed “to stir up one another to
love and good works ... encouraging one another, and all the more
as you see the Day drawing near” (Heb. 10:24—25); and

WHEREAS, Christ has given us a powerful purpose and a com-
pelling commission to drive us together toward one common
goal—to “go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
and teaching them to keep all that I have commanded you” (Matt.
28:19-20) and “to do unto others as you would wish them to do to
you” (Matt. 7:12); and

WHEREAS, A constructive use of our time together, wherever
and whenever we gather as Jesus’ church, would be to work on
ways to relate to one another in a healthy, compassionate, loving,
accepting, trusting, and Christian manner and how to minister more

effectively together to bring a dying, confused, and lost world to
the joy of life in Christ; therefore be it

Resolved, That when we gather in synodical and District con-
vention and as Circuits, our solid and primary emphasis be to cele-
brate the victory (1 Cor. 15:57) our Lord Jesus Christ has given us;
and be it further

Resolved, That such celebration include prayer, worship, the
study of God’s Word together, and the sharing of what great things
God, in Christ, is doing in our world and in His church individually
and collectively; and be it further

Resolved, That we celebrate how the Word of the Lord is grow-
ing and transforming our own lives and the lives of non-believers
for Jesus for eternity; and be it further

Resolved, That in convention and elsewhere, we continually
build trusting, loving, joy-filled relationships with one another, as
we are reminded that we are ambassadors (representatives) for
Christ; and be it finally

Resolved, That from the heart, we “do everything to the glory of
God” (1 Cor. 10:31)—because Christ has reconciled us and has
privileged us with the marvelous ministry of reconciliation—that
the world may see our good works, see how we love one another,
and give glory to our Father in heaven.

To Limit Convention Time for Bylaw Revisions

WHEREAS, Past conventions of The Lutheran Church—Missouri
Synod have spent inordinate amounts of time debating proposed
revisions to the synodical Bylaws and other structural concerns;
and

WHEREAS, This necessary but tedious work expends many con-
vention hours that could more profitably be used for other purposes
(e.g., missions!); and

Wuereas, Not even a single soul will be saved by church struc-
ture, although the latter is duly important in giving shape and di-
rection to mission endeavors; therefore be it

Resolved, That except in the most highly unusual circumstances
the consideration of Bylaw revisions and structural reforms shall
normally be limited to a maximum of one quarter of convention
time.

To Record Tally of Votes in Convention Minutes
Wuereas, Modern technology has made it possible to obtain an
exact count of the votes at conventions of the Synod; and
WHEREAS, In recent conventions such technology has been em-
ployed to produce a rapid recording of the votes on resolutions pre-
sented for adoption; therefore be it

Resolved, That the Florida-Georgia District memorialize the
2001 synodical convention to publish minutes of the convention
that indicate the number of votes in favor or opposed to any
recorded motions presented to the convention.
