Lutheran Women’s Missionary League

LWML Mission Statement

The mission of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League
is to assist each woman of
The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
in affirming her relationship with the triune God

so that she is enabled to use her gifts
in ministry to the people of the world.

The LWML, an official auxiliary of the LCMS, is committed
to touching the lives of all LCMS women and therefore the church
in several ways: the opportunity and resources for spiritual enrich-
ment, a greater mission awareness and personal commitment to ser-
vice. As Lutheran Women in Mission we can and do make a sig-
nificant difference for our Lord.

In July 1999 the Board of Directors adopted the following tar-
gets and goals for the 1999-2001 biennium. A sampling of activi-
ties that address these targets are listed:

Primary Target: Spiritual Living

Each woman is nourished by the love of Jesus, woven by the
Word into her everyday life, so that her life and actions emulate
His love.

Activities include: production of a variety of devotional materi-
als including “Timeless Jewels,” a package of devotions from past
Quarterlies; a new children’s book, retreats, and resources for men-
toring.

Primary Target: Embracing Diversity

LCMS women, recognizing and respecting cultural differences
within God’s family, celebrate their oneness in Christ. Each woman
intentionally becomes more open and sensitive to other ethnic
groups so that mutual learning and understanding take place.

Activities include: resources translated and produced in Span-
ish and those for the support of young women in the Districts; con-
tinued development of the LWML Web site, production of re-
sources promoting mentoring and revision of present products.

Primary Target: Community Mission Vision

Each woman is increasingly aware of the needs of those in her
community (physical, spiritual, emotional), and is investing herself
in meeting those needs.

Activities include: development of resources, i.e., retreats, work-
shop materials; new Web Page Window tips for lifestyle evange-
lism; repackaging Tender Touches (greeting cards) for individual
needs and sales.

“Knowing Christ and Making Him Known” is the mission of
the Quarterly, the official publication of the LWML. Individual or
group subscriptions are available through the LWML Office.

The national organization adopted a complete revision of by-
laws at the 1999 convention and became known as the Lutheran
Women’s Missionary League. New titles were given to officers and
departments, which more closely describe their duties within the
LWML.

The women of the LWML recently met at the 60th anniversary
convention, July 5—8, 2001, in San Jose, Calif., where new mission
grants were selected for the 2001-2003 biennium. New products
and resources, produced by the LWML, were available at the con-
vention. We serve the Lord with gladness each day because He
first loved us.
