RESOLUTIONS

1. Witness and Outreach

To Accept and Apply Mission
Blueprint for the Nineties

‘ RESOLUTION 1-01

App. II (CW, pp. 359-68), Overtures 1-01, 1-07, 1-15
(CW, pp. 155-57, 159)

Rationale:
In the turbulent times of these latter days there is one
high and holy purpose for which the end of all things is
postponed. That purpose is stated by Christ Himself in the
Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20; 24:14) and supported
by our convention theme: With Great Boldness ... Tell
Everyone What He Has Done.

Understanding the size of the task and knowing the
time to be short, President Ralph A. Bohlmann proposed
the formation of a Mission Task Force “to carry out a broad
review of the Synod’s mission activity and to recommend

strategies and actions for the future” which are to be

After two years of evaluating in-person presentations,
written essays, consultations, and questionnaire | ‘re-
sponses, the task force submitted its full report April j16,
1991 to the President, to the Board for Mission Services,
and the congregations of The Lutheran Church—Missouri
Synod. It is titled Mission Blueprint for the Nineties.

The blueprint highlights 13 emphases which call |for
attention and action by the Synod, as such, by the Board
for Mission Services, by Districts, congregations, and part-
ner churches,

These highlights rest on 10 basic assumptions each with
a symphonic refrain: “In the Nineties and until the Last
Day ... ,” expressing full commitment to Scripture, the
Lutheran Confessions, the means of grace, the proper dis-
tinction between Law and Gospel, etc.

On the basis of these emphases and assumptions the
task force developed 15 goals, which under the grace of
God and by the power of His Holy Spirit should stir the
Synod to implement renewed commitment and new direc-
tions in mission:
