Anm. a. Anm. c. Anm. d. So wollte man abſetzen 1. einen eifrigen Prediger in Arnſtadt,

...the congregation's dismissal, would be a servant of men. The congregation's vote cannot bind the pastor's conscience. How many a congregation has already resolved something against God! Note d. If the congregation, after the pastor has long deliberated at length with the congregation over the matter, leaves the decision to the pastor's conscience, this cannot be called a peaceful dismissal. Note e. The pastor could answer for going against the consent of his congregation only if 1. he himself is in his conscience wholly and entirely convinced of the divinity of the call; 2. the congregation is unwilling to consider the reasons presented at all, but plainly persists willfully in its own opinion out of carnal attachment to its pastor. — Here it holds: One must obey God rather than men; 3. experienced fellow ministers share the pastor's conviction. Here the pastor should not act on his own judgment alone. Note f. Woe to the pastor who selfishly tears apart the bond between himself and his congregation! Note g. The dismissal need not take place unanimously. Removal from office. 25. As with the calling, so also the removal of a pastor from office is God's affair. Therefore a congregation cannot depose its pastor whenever it wishes, but only when it is known and manifest that God has already removed him from his office. Note a. Many congregations think they can dismiss their pastor like a servant. — But no one can dismiss his father's servant, except the father himself. Note b. If one has taken a wife, then for a separation God must first give his consent. Note c. If a congregation arbitrarily deposes its pastor, then 1. it thereby turns Christ himself away from itself. Whoever touches the prophets touches the apple of God's eye. He who despises you despises me; 2. it should not be served by any other pastor, so that the action of such a congregation is not tacitly approved. Whoever accepts such a call has no call. Before God the first pastor is still the rightful pastor of the congregation; 3. such a congregation should, if all admonition is fruitless, be excluded from the synodical fellowship. Note d. Thus they once wanted to depose 1. a zealous preacher in Arnstadt,
