THE LUTHERAN PIONEER
BOOK TABLE.
Concordia Lessons for Beginners. By Wm. H. Luke.
Set of fifty-two Bible-story folders, each with two
pictures in colors. Concordia Publishing House,
St. Louis, Mo. Size, 5*/:.<6'°/1. Price: Per set,
50 cts.; per dozen sets, sent to one address, $4.80,
and postage; per 100 sets, to one address, $33.33,
and postage.
Pastor Luke, who is the editor of our Sunday-school
literature, is the man for the place; this he has once
more shown by putting out this ideal series of Bible-stories
for beginners. The stories are written in the language
of four-year-olds. Each lesson brings also a special mes-
sage to fathers and mothers, giving directions how to teach
the lesson; this message is also intended for the teachers,
no doubt. The selections are most happy. Page one of
each folder brings a beautifully colored picture; page two
tells the story, which is followed by a number of questions
on the lesson; on page three is found the memory work,
sometimes a prayer, sometimes a hymn set to music, and
then again a Bible-verse or a drawing for coloring; page
four has another colored picture and the message for par-
ents. We hope that the publishers will decide to bring out
these lessons in permanent form. May this series of at-
tractive and helpful lessons find thousands of users!

during August, 1856”; “Early Lutherans and Lutheran

Why I Became a Christian. A Reply to the Editor
of the Jewish Weekly Modern View. By Alexander
Schaap, Church Editor, St. Louis Times. Published
by request. Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis,
Mo. Price, 5 cts.; 100 copies, $1.67, postpaid.
The writer was a member of Dr. R. Kretzschmar’s con-
gregation in St.Louis. This beautiful testimony Mr.Schaap
wrote in reply to a request by the editor of a Jewish weekly
a short time after his recovery: from a serious illness. He
died about a month after the publication of his testimony
in the Jewish weekly Afodern View. Mr. Schaap was the
son of orthodox Jewish parents.
Fifth Synodical Report of Southern Nebraska Dis-
trict, Missouri Synod. May be ordered from Con-
+ cordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo.
The interesting address of President Cholcher concerns
, itself with the founding of the Christian Church. The
paper by Pastor H. E. Meyer brings a fine exposition of the
Second Petition.
Testimonials on Secret Societies from Various
: Sources. Compiled by Geo. Luecke, Lutheran Pastor.
Order from Rev. Geo. Luecke, 811 Locust St., Colum-
t bia, Pa. Price, 4 cts., postpaid.
_ This is in every way a most usable tract of sixteen
pages. On its pages the compiler has the secretists them-
selves testify just what they are and what they stand for.
Members of secret societies tell us about the religion of
the lodge, lodge oaths, lodge initiations, other lodge absur-
‘dities, and the various alleged lodge-membership benefits.
