THE LUTHERAN PIONEER
Family Prayers. By Prof. H. B. Hemmeter, D. D.
SS pages. Art-cloth binding, 60 cts. Flexible-leather
binding, red under gold edges, $1.75.
This book indicates psalm-readings and brings several
prayers for each morning and evening of the week and
a large number of so-called special prayers for particular
occasions. Prayers for special seasons of the year are
likewise offered. We feel that this book will help to
make us more prayerful.
The Jeffersonian Ideals of Religious Liberty. By
Walter A. Maier, Ph. D. Address Deliverd at the
University of Virginia at Charlottesville, Va., Au-
gust 9, 1930. 22 pages. Price, 15 cts.
We all know Thomas Jefferson to have been the fore-
most champion of religious liberty in his day; this fact
is strikingly brought out in this address. What a pity
that a deist like Jefferson must champion the cause of
religious liberty against churchmen! Another proof that
God rules in the midst of His enemies.
Glimpses of the Lives of Great Missionary Women.
By Paul E. Kretzmann. Vol. IX of Men and Mis-
sions, edited by L. Fuerbringer. 99 pages. Price,
40 cts.
Short biographies of ten women prominent in mission-
ary history. These short stories will do much to increase
the missionary interest among the women of our churches. -
Thé book is well adapted for use in ladies’ missionary so-
cieties. We were pleased to see among the chosen subjects
Lydia Woerner, Rosine Krapf, and Anna Kugler, but
were disappointed not to find Mary Slessor, Jennie Craw-
ford, and Mary Williams among those selected for treat-
ment.
One Hundred Easy Organ Preludes. By G. C. A.
Kaeppel. 52 pages, 124%.X9%. Price, $1.25.
Organists in need of music that is not difficult to play
will appreciate this selection of preludes prepared for
them by Master Kaeppel. Though easy, these preludes
are churchlike and in every particular real choral pre-
ludes. They have not been prepared for any special
chorals, and Professor Kaeppel has provided introduc-
tions that can be used in connection with practically all
our choral tunes.

lishing House, St. Louis, Mo.
