THE LUTHERAN PIONEER
entered a Buddhist monastery because he wished to
flee this world; how he was beaten in the monastery
for refusing to obey; how he tried to commit sui-
cide; and how he threatened to take the life of
other people; finally, how he died a raving maniac,
may be related some other time. May we ever pray:
Abide, O dearest Jesus,
Among us with Thy grace
That Satan may not harm us
Nor we to sin give place.
Abide, O dear Redeemer,
Among us with Thy Word
And thus now and hereafter
True peace and joy afford.
EE. RIEDEL.
A Specialist.
An Arab beggar used to sit at the gate of a rich
man’s house, on whose bounty he depended and from
whom he received daily alms. One day his patron
wished to send a letter in a hurry and, seeing the
beggar, asked him to deliver it. The beggar drew
himself up and said, “I solicit alms; I don’t run
errands.” We have been soliciting alms from God
all our lives; and yet how unwilling many of us
are to convey His message of salvation or do any
other service for Him! — Christian Herald.
BOOK TABLE.
Mission-Stories. Incidents which Happened on Our Mis-
sion-Fields. By Ohristopher Drewes. Concordia Pub-
lishing House, St. Louis, Mo. 99 pages; brown cloth
binding. Price, 70 cts.
Our dear departed friend Pastor Drewes, during the
last months of his life, gathered twenty-six mission-stories
from our widely scattered mission-fields, home and foreign,
and the publishers have now put these stories on the
market in a neatly bound book of a hundred pages. The
writer had a look into the finished pages of the manu-
script just a few weeks before our sainted friend’s death
and spent several hours in reading a number of these
highly interesting stories while waiting for a train. If
this book can be placed into the hands of our people, it
will go far towards increasing their interest in our
missions. May it find many readers!
Wisdom unto Salvation. A Program and Order of Ser-
vice for Rally Day. Compiled by Wm. H. Luke.
Concordia Publishing House, St.Louis, Mo. Price:
Single copies, 6 cts., postpaid; dozen, 60 cts., plus
postage; 100, $4.50, plus postage.
This is a double Rally Day program. Part One is to
be carried out in the regular Sunday-school session, while
Part Two is a church service. We are of the opinion that
this double feature will make a special appeal. to many
“that observe Rally Day. A program like this will impress
the importance of Christian education upon parents and
children. The rendering of this double program will not
require much practise, which is also very important.
The Concordia Sunday-School Pin System. Concordia
Publishing House, St. Louis, Mo.
We are pleased to call the attention of our readers to
this inexpensive, uniformly Lutheran system of Sunday-
school pins. The pins bear Luther’s coat of arms. The
whole system consists of three pins, an inexpensive, but
very handsome celluloid pin, given the pupil at the time
of enrolment, and two styles of gold pins, one enameled
and the other plain gold, which later replace the pin first
given. The gold pins are provided with disks indicating
the length of time the pupil has attended Sunday-school.
Special disks for teachers, officers, and Bible-class members
are also provided. The celluloid pin costs 14% cents, the
plain gold pin 60 cents, and the enameled gold pin
75 cents. The disks sell for 10 cents each. F. J. L.
