216 RESOLUTIONS
To Recognize and Thank Dr. Milton
Carpenter for Service as Treasurer
RESOLUTION 13-11A
Report 13-01 (CW, p. 337)
WHEREAS, Milton Carpenter has provided valuable
service to our Lord and to His church on practically a
full-time basis and without compensation as Treasurer
of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod for 15 years;
and
WHEREAS, His expertise in finance has been accom-
panied through these years by an optimistic faith and a
confident spirit that has been a source of blessing to the
church as a body and to its leaders as individuals;
therefore be it
Resolved, That The Lutheran Church—Missouri
Synod, in convention assembled, offer thanks and
praise to the Lord of the church for continuing to
supply us with His gifts of men and women whom He
equips with special talents and with the needed faith
and love to utilize them for the common good of His
people; and be it further
Resolved, That we extend our sincere con-
gratulations and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Carpenter for
His willing effort and helpful insight in carrying out
the duties of his office over the years and thank him for
the encouraging words with which he bids us to look to
the future of our Synod; and be it finally
Resolved, That we commend him and his wife to the
gracious care and loving guidance of our heavenly
Father, for health in body, soul, and spirit, as he enjoys
his retirement and continues to serve His Lord as he is
led.

To Continue Synodical Subsidy
and Development Resources
for Educational Institutions
RESOLUTION 13-12
Overture 13-09 (CW, pp. 395—396)
WHEREAS, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod
maintains educational institutions to equip people for
ministry in the church; and
WHEREAS, The Synod recognizes its responsibility
for generous support and direction for the educational
institutions; and
WHEREAS, The costs of operating these educational
institutions have been rapidly escalating in these
inflationary days, forcing the educational institutions
to secure increasingly large sums of money for
operating purposes both by raising fees and through
development programs of their own; therefore be it
Resolved, That the Synod recognize the present need
of educational institutions to raise increasingly larger
amounts of money by their own efforts in development;
and be it further
Resolved, That the Synod provide at least the
present percentage level of subsidy (including current
inflationary trends) for its educational institutions; and
be it finally
Resolved, That the Board for Higher Education in
consultation with the Board of Directors and the Board
of Stewardship of the Synod be directed by the Synod to
explore the coordination of fund-raising efforts of the
educational institutions for the purpose of ascertaining
the most desirable and economic means of raising
development funds and report to the 1979 convention.
Action: Adopted (14).
