questions in its report to the 1998 convention.
Action: Adopted as amended (8).
(A motion to amend by deleting the second resolve was de-
clined after the convention had also determined not to consider
an amendment to the amendment which was ruled a substitute
motion. It would have had the second resolve contain the words to
explore whether and how they may better reflect appropriate pur-
poses as a substitute for the words in light of. The motion had
been amended by substituting the words in light of for to better re-

To Revise Bylaws Pertaining
to Admission to Pastoral Ministry
by Colloquy
RESOLUTION 5-06A
Overture 5-25 (CW, pp. 207-16)
Rationale:
The responsibilities of the Colloquy Committee for the
Pastoral Ministry have gore far beyond the original inten-
tion and understanding of colloquy. Over the years, collo-
quy has come to include many things other than the tradi-
tional M.Div. program. The proposed revisions to the
colloquy program would limit the colloquy to two categories:
(1) ministers trained in other Christian church bodies and
(2) laymen who have carried out the full responsibilities of
the pastoral ministry for at least 10 years. Other applicants
for the ministry, such as commissioned ministers of reli-
gion, laymen of a special ethnic or linguistic group, and lay-
men who have fulfilled at least 10 years of significant ser-
vice in a congregation, will participate in special theological
education (alternate routes) under the direction of the sem-
inaries.
