To Reinstate the Rev. Dr. Gregory Schulz
WHEREAS, The Rev. Dr. Gregory P. Schulz has enjoyed a long
and distinguished career as a pastor of The Lutheran Church—
Missouri Synod and as a university faculty member in the area of
philosophy, most recently as a faculty member at Concordia
University Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Schulz has brought to light serious concerns
regarding the infiltration of worldly and unbiblical philosophies at
Concordia University Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, Such concerns have been validated in a letter from the
Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, President of the Synod, to the
Concordia University Wisconsin Board of Regents dated May 9,
2022, following an official visitation to the university, in which
Pastor Harrison wrote, inter alia:
… throughout our visit, concerned faculty, staff, and students
expressed concern over the introduction of secular diversity,
equity, and inclusion language and initiatives into the mission of
the university. This philosophy is laden with ideas antagonistic
to the sacred Scriptures, including great lies about human
sexuality and race …
and
WHEREAS, Dr. Schulz was suspended from his position due to
his good faith presentation of his concerns in the exercise of his
academic freedom, and under circumstances which have caused
harm to his reputation through public statements by administrators
at Concordia University Wisconsin, with serious questions having
been raised as to whether appropriate process was followed in such
action; therefore be it
Resolved, That, so that all things may be done decently and in
order, Dr. Schulz immediately be reinstated to his position and, if
there exists good cause to take disciplinary action against him, such
be stated by the Concordia University Wisconsin administration
publicly—because this has now become a public matter through its
actions—so that Dr. Schulz may have all process due him and the
right to defend his good name before the Church.
