Ey. Luth. Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States. 1917. 9

. Synod sustained a severe loss in the death of Vice-President
H. Speckhard, December 28, 1916. He died at the age of 57, after
‘a brief illness, in the joyous faith in his Savior. Out of the midst
of his labors he was taken to the rest that remaineth to the people
of God. The departed brother had received splendid gifts from God,
which ‘he willingly placed at the service of Synod; and thus his
death has left a large place to be filled.

Now may the Lord abide with us with His gifts and Spirit, and
keep us pure in doctrine and sound in practise! Amen.
