he Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other
Rictes assembled for its thirtieth Convention (being the fifteenth
Melegate Synod) in Milwaukee, Wis., on June 20th. The opening
ice was held in Trinity Church, the Rev. H. Sprengeler, Pastor,
10 a.m. The sermon was preached by the Rev. Vice-President
‘Hileendorf from Ps. 126, 3: “The Lord hath done great things
tus, whereof we are glad.” Very impressive was this whole service
its appealing sermon, the powerful choral song of the vast as-
blage, including Luther’s “Ein’ Feste Burg,” and the fine work
f the choirs.
At 2 p.m., the business sessions were opened with Scripture
ind prayer. First of all, the venerable President, the Rev. F. Pfoten-
hauer, read his presidential address, which we have translated and
rewith give in full: —

“With' respect to the war, we Christians must use all diligence
have our judgments fashioned by the Word of God, which gives
