Niederplanitz in Sachsen, 19. Oct. 1880.

O. Willkomm, ev.-luth. Pastor.

N. N. in P. Merbitz' Gem. 10.00. Durch P. A. Lohr von F. A. Nothdurft 5.00. N. N. in Forest Park 1.45. Durch P. Janzow aus der Hochzeit- und Kindtaufcollectenkasse sr. Gem. 6.65. Für Stud. L. Lange in St. Louis aus d. Armenkasse der Gem. in Pleasant Ridge, Ill., 10.00. Für Stud. H. Rohlfing in St. Louis (?). Coll. auf d. Hochzeit des Hrn. F. Grote dahier 8.40 für Stud. E. Heinemann in St. Louis.

C. F. W. Walther.

the need has not been relieved; our fellow believers there again this year have harvested either nothing at all, or only so little, that they would fall into the bitterest need if we do not help them. This need was now presented to the reverend Synod of the Western District during its recently held convention in Concordia, and a committee was appointed by it, consisting of Pastors G. Tönjes and M. Meyer and Mr. Aug. Mangelsdorf in Atchison, who is to receive gifts for these needy people and purchase food and clothing and distribute it to those in want.

Since winter is now at the door, and many things very necessary to these people, such as potatoes and the like, can later either not be obtained or shipped at all, or only with difficulty, the heartfelt and urgent request goes out herewith to all who through God's grace have a mite to spare for this purpose, to send in such gifts quite soon; for whoever gives quickly here truly gives twice.

Request.

For the building of the professor's residence at the college here, only the larger half of the cost has so far come in. Since the work is now finished, I am obliged to secure the money shortly. It would be very desirable if this could happen without having to take out loans. The request is therefore hereby made to all the dear congregations of our district, especially to those who have either given nothing yet, or have not given all that was promised in this matter, to make, if possible, a payment corresponding to their means quite soon. It would also not be improper hereby most modestly to remind those districts that have resolved to support ours in the undertaking under discussion of their promise. So far nothing at all has come in from outside the Middle District.

Fort Wayne, Oct. 31, 1880. C. Grahl, Treasurer.

(Delayed.)

Heartfelt Thanks

is given by the undersigned, on behalf of the Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Free Church in Saxony and other states, to all those who last winter thought of the needy brethren in the faith in Germany and sent us, little by little, the sum of 1431 marks 46 pfennigs for their support. It has thereby become possible to support some 40 families in our Synod who were either literally suffering hunger, or who had fallen into bitter want through particular misfortunes; 40 marks, which were expressly designated for those suffering hunger in Silesia, have, since the famine there had ended and the collections for it were discontinued, been given over to the Landrat at Lauban for the flood victims of the Lauban district. — Together with the heartiest thanks for all these gifts, the undersigned is charged with conveying the further notice that the particular need which occasioned these generous gifts has now ceased, while the general need, which especially hampers the preservation of a doctrinally sound church life in Germany, still continues.

Niederplanitz in Saxony, Oct. 19, 1880.

O. Willkomm, Evangelical Lutheran Pastor.

Since March 8 of this year, the following gifts of love for poor students have come in to the aid fund of the Southeastern Conference District of Missouri: From Pastor Matuschka's congregation $11.75. N. N. in Pastor Merbitz's congregation 10.00. Through Pastor A. Lohr, from F. A. Nothdurft 5.00. Through Pastor O. Voigt, part of the confirmation collection on Ascension Day 1.75. Surplus of the collection for printing the paper for the conference in Frohna, Mo., 2.45. From my own congregation 10.00. N. N. in Forest Park 1.45. Through Pastor Janzow, from the wedding and infant-baptism collection fund of his congregation 6.65. For student L. Lange in St. Louis, from the poor fund of the congregation in Pleasant Ridge, Ill., 10.00. For student H. Rohlfing in St. Louis (?). Collection at the wedding of Mr. F. Grote here, 8.40, for student E. Heinemann in St. Louis. Through Pastor Janzow, collection at Pastor Weinhold's infant baptism, 2.75.

May God repay the dear givers for their charity for Christ's sake, and raise up quite many cheerful givers who will gladly take to heart the need of the church's poor future servants.

The fund is again in such a state that the need of those who depend on support cannot be relieved. I therefore ask most kindly herewith that something be lent to the dear God out of the earthly goods entrusted to us: for it is He who comes in His poor to those who have means, and who rewards such lending with high interest. Prov. 19:17. Matt. 10:41-42.

North St. Louis, Mo., Nov. 2, '80.

For poor students, Pastor Hertrich in Faribault, Minn., received with heartfelt thanks from his congregation the Reformation festival collection in the amount of $8.00.
