MEETING OF JOINT COMMITTEE REPRESENTING THE SYNOD'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND THE
COMMITTEE ON CONSTITUTIONAL MATTERS
83. The meeting took place on Friday afternoon, February 7, 1964, and on

Saturday, February 8, 1964, at the Lutheran Building, Saint Louis, Missouri.
84. All members were present.
85. The meeting was opened with prayer by Chairman Wittmer.

86. The Minutes of the Meeting of November 8-9, 1963, were approved as

presented.

87. It was agreed to meet until 7:00 o'clock on Friday evening and to reassem-

ble at 8:30 o'clock on Saturday morning.

88. The Secretary read the UNIFORM NOMENCLATURE as it had been established
at the last meeting. A long and involved discussion took place. Eventually a new
paragraph order was agreed upon, certain changes were made in some wording and the
matter of no compensation, but reimbursement for expenses, was more clearly defined.

The corrected and accepted version is as follows:

UNIFORM NOMENCLATURE

1. A COMMITTEE is either an officially established but temporary agency of the
Synod consisting of a group of appointed persons created by the Synod and responsible
directly to it for the study of a particular problem or for the performance of some
special and limited function other than functions carried out by departments of the
Synod or a continuing subgroup established by and responsible to one or more commis-
sions, boards, or councils of the Synod. A person serving on such a committee shall
not be compensated except for reimbursement of expenses,

2. A COMMISSION is an officially established and continuing agency of the Synod,
consisting of a group of appointed persons who are jointly charged with the perform-
ance or execution of specified duties assigned to it by the Synod or by a board, but
which does not have attached to it any department of the Synod. A person serving on
such a commission shall not be compensated except for reimbursement of expenses.
