COMMITTEE ON TITUT L_MATTERS
- HELD IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS
May 21, 1953
PEPLO
All members were present. The Chairman called the meeting to order and
opened with prayer.
1. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved, after the
following matters had been disposed of.
a. As to paragraph 3, Committee 6 at Synod is to consider this ques-
tion and submit the proper wording for the Handbook.
b. As to paragraph 8, the question will come before Synod through the
suggeetion in the report of the Committee on the Status of the Teacher, (Rep. 627)
page 413, fourth paragraph, according to which they are to be called "Ministers of
Christian Education", It was decided to await the action of Synod in the matter.
c. As to paragraph 10, this matter (clarification of Article XI B of
the Constitution and Section 5.23) was left for future investigation.
2. Matters referred to Committee 6 at Synod:
a. Memorial 136, page 103, “Ranking of Professors". If Committee 1
recommends this, it should draw up the paragraph in proper form and submit it to
Committee 6.
b. The policy advocated on page 176 regarding Sections 4.55 and 4.63
should be considered by Committee 1 so that Committee 6 can formulate the wording.
c. The Committee briefly reviewed Memorials 501, 502, and 503, the
latter asking for a change in Section 3.02. No action.
(do Rez 2,139 (Memorial 507). The suggestion that the Fiscal Confer-
ence act as Selection Committee for the Nominations Committee is not against the
letter of the Constitution and By-Laws but deemed inadvisable by the committee,
. The Committee on Nominations can hardly be elected three years before the conven-
tion, and the Praesidium should have no hand in appointing members to this committee
e. Re: 2,141 (Memorial 507), the committee was of the opinion that suct
solicitation could perhaps be done better through the Witness.
