Resolved, That we recommend the services of this committee
to all our congregations and boards throughout the Synod.
Action: This resolution was adopted.
Full-Time Lay Training School
RESOLUTION 10, COMMITTEE 13
Memorial 202, page 287, Reports and Memorials
Wuereas, The need for a Parish Training Program was recog-
nized by the Synod in 1950 by its favorable action on Resolution 3
(page 487, 1950 Proceedings), “Enlistment and Training of Our
Laity” (“Saved to Serve”); and
Wuergas, The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod resolved in
1953 by its action on Memorial 204, “Lutheran Bible Institutes for
Training Lay Workers” (1953 Proceedings, page 344), that it
favored the establishment by the Board of Parish Education of one
full-time Bible Institute for Lay Training on an experimental basis
and by authorizing the Board of Directors of the Synod to allow
funds for such an institute; and
Wuereas, The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod in 1956 by
Resolution 202 (page 276, 1956 Proceedings) charged a Planning
Commission with the responsibility of bringing back to the 44th
regular convention of The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod a
report on this matter after an exhaustive study; and
Wuereas, The Planning Commission of 17 members drawn from
various boards of the Synod has submitted an extensive study
(Memorial 202, pages 287—303, Reports and Memorials, 44th Con-
vention, 1959); and
Wuereas, The report of the Planning Commission points out
the need within The Lutheran Church— Missouri Synod for a
training school for lay workers, and that lay persons are desirous
of entering into this service; and
Wuereas, The report of the Planning Commission suggests a
plan of organization, curriculum arrangement, administrative setup,
and implementation of such a training school so that The Lutheran
Church — Missouri Synod could proceed with the establishment
of a lay training school without appreciably modifying other train-
ing efforts; therefore be it
Resolved:
1. That The Lutheran Church — Missouri Synod authorize the
establishment of a two-year training institute;
