Eckhardt's Homiletisches Reallexikon, 1907–1917

A cumulative subject index to seven Missouri Synod periodicals, compiled by E. (Ernest) Eckhardt (1868–1939) and printed at St. Louis between 1907 and 1917. Under each headword it sets numbered theses, and beside each thesis the places where the periodicals had treated it — by volume and page, running twenty years past the last of Der Lutheraner's own registers. Where the archive holds the volume a citation names, the citation below is a link to that page.

The alphabetical run is here in full, Abendmahl through Wunder, assembled from five scans: two archive.org items, a pair from Google Books that closes what had looked like a gap in the middle of the alphabet, and the archive.org tail. With it are the Beichtreden appendix, Eckhardt's own printed Register, and the separate 1913 treatise Die Schule, bound in with the later volumes and kept here under its own heading.

Headwords are spelled as Eckhardt set them, so the filter folds the differences that would otherwise hide them — Sklaverei finds Sclaverei, Konkordienformel finds Concordienformel. What you see listed is always the printed spelling.

6. Die Eltern ſollen während des Koufirmandenunterrichts mit ihrem Paſtor Hand in Hand arbeiten, a. ihre Kinder, die konfirmiert werden ſollen, regelmäßig ſchicken. Saumſeliger Beſuch der Konfirmandenſtunde von ſeiten etlicher iſt ein ſo großes Hindernis; b. ſich kümmern um das, was die Konfirmanden jetzt vor allem bewegen ſollte; c. das Auswendiglernen ihrer Kinder beaufſichtigen, ſich Sprüche und Katechismus aufſagen laſſen; d. gewiſſenhafte Aufſicht über ihre Kinder führen, ſie fleißig zum Gottesdienſt anhalten Schulb. 40, 231. 7. Am Konfirmationstag ſelbſt ſollen die Eltern a. mit ihren Kindern keine Schauſtellung machen. Wohl können Konfirmanden in feſtlichem Schmuck erſcheinen, aber alles Auffällige und Übertriebene ſoll vermieden werden. Anm. a. Weiße Kleider (Off. 7, 9.) ſind eine Erinnerung daran, daß wir Gott in eigener Gerechtigkeit nicht gefallen. Anm. b. Blumen ſind ein Bild der Auferſtehung und erinnern daran, daß wir vom geiſtlichen Tode erſtanden ſind; b. keine leichtfertige, weltliche Geſellſchaft für den Nachmittag einladen. Das wäre ein Widerſpruch und Ärgernis. Bei vielen iſt leider die Geſellſchaft die Hauptſache.

Nach der Konfirmation ſollen Eltern Sorge tragen für ihre konfirmierten Kinder, ſie im Glauben zu erhalten und zu ſtärken ſuchen, ſie anhalten zum Gottesdienſt, Chriſtenlehre, Abendmahl, Anſchluß an die Gemeinde, ſie zu bewahren ſuchen vor böſer Geſellſchaft, ſchlechten Schriften, Logen u. ſ. w. und ihnen das Elternhaus lieb und wert machen.
