Eckhardt's Homiletisches Reallexikon, 1907–1917

A cumulative subject index to seven Missouri Synod periodicals, compiled by E. (Ernest) Eckhardt (1868–1939) and printed at St. Louis between 1907 and 1917. Under each headword it sets numbered theses, and beside each thesis the places where the periodicals had treated it — by volume and page, running twenty years past the last of Der Lutheraner's own registers. Where the archive holds the volume a citation names, the citation below is a link to that page.

The alphabetical run is here in full, Abendmahl through Wunder, assembled from five scans: two archive.org items, a pair from Google Books that closes what had looked like a gap in the middle of the alphabet, and the archive.org tail. With it are the Beichtreden appendix, Eckhardt's own printed Register, and the separate 1913 treatise Die Schule, bound in with the later volumes and kept here under its own heading.

Headwords are spelled as Eckhardt set them, so the filter folds the differences that would otherwise hide them — Sklaverei finds Sclaverei, Konkordienformel finds Concordienformel. What you see listed is always the printed spelling.

1. Spötter, die das Heilige in den Kot ziehen, hat es immer in der Welt gegeben und wird es geben bis ans Ende der Tage. Beiſpiele: a. Der Ritter 2 Kön. 7, 19. b. Saneballat Neh. 4, 2. c. Viele unter den Juden. „Sie ſind voll ſüßen Wei⸗ nes.“ Joh. 8. 52: „Nun erkennen wir, daß du den Teufel haſt.“ Ma. 7, 67—69. Stöckh. N. T. 168. — — hat andern geholfen und kann ſich ſelbſt nicht helen.“ d. Voltaire. „Noch 20 Jahre, und es wird dem Gott der Chriſten kein einziger Altar bleiben.“ e. Der Sohn in dem Gedicht: Eine Mauer um uns baue. Anm. a. Gerade in der letzten Zeit der Welt werden die Spötter immer frecher auftreten. 2 Petr. 3, 3. 4: Wo iſt die Verheißung ſeiner Zukunft? Anm. b. Doch gibt es auch einen erlaubten heiligen Spott falſchen Religionen gegenüber, der hervorgeht aus Eifer für das Reich Gottes und das Heil des Nächſten. Elias und die Baalspfaffen. 2. Spott über das Heilige iſt Sünde gegen das zweite Gebot, die Gott ernſtlich ſtrafen will. Irret euch nicht, Gott läßt ſich nicht ſpotten. Das Ende ſolcher Spötter iſt zeitliches und ewiges Verderben. Ma. 7, 69. Anm. a. Beiſpiele, wie manchmal Spötter ein Ende mit Schrecken nehmen Luth. 42, 54. 61, 25. 62, 113. 63, 57. 65, 91. 3. Verhalten den Spöttern gegenüber. a. Chriſten müſſen den Spott der Welt tragen in Geduld. Das gehört mit zum Chriſtenkreuz. Amm. Es iſt ſchwer, den Spott der Leute über ſich cr. gehen zu laſſen, ſo daß ſchon mancher Chriſt die Watr— heit verleugnet hat. Durch fleißiges Bibelleſen aber lernt man den Spott der Leute verachten. Il. 89. — 78. b. Chriſten ſollen mit Spöttern nichts zu tun boben 1 Kor. 5, 11: Habt nichts mit ihnen zu ſchaffen. Vi. 1, 1: noch ſitzet, da die Spötter ſitzen. c. Auch ſollen Chriſten das Heiligtum nicht den Hun den geben. Matth. 7, 6. Iſt vorauszuſehen, daß das Zengnis der Wahrheit nur noch größeren Spott herrer rufen würde, ſo ſoll man die Spötter keines Zeugnißtz würdigen. ‚ d.
