Eckhardt's Homiletisches Reallexikon, 1907–1917

A cumulative subject index to seven Missouri Synod periodicals, compiled by E. (Ernest) Eckhardt (1868–1939) and printed at St. Louis between 1907 and 1917. Under each headword it sets numbered theses, and beside each thesis the places where the periodicals had treated it — by volume and page, running twenty years past the last of Der Lutheraner's own registers. Where the archive holds the volume a citation names, the citation below is a link to that page.

The alphabetical run is here in full, Abendmahl through Wunder, assembled from five scans: two archive.org items, a pair from Google Books that closes what had looked like a gap in the middle of the alphabet, and the archive.org tail. With it are the Beichtreden appendix, Eckhardt's own printed Register, and the separate 1913 treatise Die Schule, bound in with the later volumes and kept here under its own heading.

Feinde Matth. 27, 63: da er noch tebte. Das Be⸗ gräbnis von ſeinen Freunden; 2. ein wunderbarer Tod. Der Sohn Gottes am Kreuz geſtorben, das größte Wunder. Anm. Es war keine phyſiſche, keine moraliſche Urſache ſeines Todes vorhanden. Wir ſterben, weil wir müſſen. Er ſtarb, weil er wollte. b. Begraben worden iſt Chriſtus, damit es gewiß ſei, daß er wahrhaftig geſtorben war und unſere Gräber zu Schlafkämmerlein weihe. — Wie gut, daß er nicht von ſeinen Feinden, ſondern von ſeinen Freunden begraben wurde. 11. Wie hat Chriſtus gelitten? Er hat gelitten a. freiwillig. Joh. 10, 15. 18: Ich laſſe mein Leben u. ſ. w. Niemand nimmt es von mir. Er hat nicht gelitten, weil die Phariſäer es wollten, ſondern weil er ſelbſt wollte. Er iſt nicht überwältigt worden von ſeinen Feinden. Anm. a. Er wußte, was ihm bevorſtand, als er nach Jeruſalem ging. Doch geht er ſeinen Feinden entgegen und entzieht ſich nicht. Pſ. 40, 9: Deinen Willen, mein Gott, tue Anm. b. ich gern. Das beweiſt die Geſchichte. Chriſti Wille war des Vaters Wille. Joh. 4, 34. 5, 30. 6, 38. Chriſtus war ſeinem Vater gehorſam. Anm. c. Er könnte nicht Gottes Sohn, nicht unſer Erlöſer ſein, wenn er von den Feinden wäre überwältigt worden. Anm. d. Den Gläubigen muß das Kreuz gewöhnlich aufgezwungen werden. Einwand. Wie ſtimmt das mit Chriſti Bitte: Überhebe mich dieſes Kelches? b. geduldig. 1 Petr. 2, 23: welcher nicht wieder ſchalt u. ſ. w. Er ſchweigt zu allen Gottesläſterungen ſeiner Feinde.
