Eckhardt's Homiletisches Reallexikon, 1907–1917

A cumulative subject index to seven Missouri Synod periodicals, compiled by E. (Ernest) Eckhardt (1868–1939) and printed at St. Louis between 1907 and 1917. Under each headword it sets numbered theses, and beside each thesis the places where the periodicals had treated it — by volume and page, running twenty years past the last of Der Lutheraner's own registers. Where the archive holds the volume a citation names, the citation below is a link to that page.

The alphabetical run is here in full, Abendmahl through Wunder, assembled from five scans: two archive.org items, a pair from Google Books that closes what had looked like a gap in the middle of the alphabet, and the archive.org tail. With it are the Beichtreden appendix, Eckhardt's own printed Register, and the separate 1913 treatise Die Schule, bound in with the later volumes and kept here under its own heading.

15, d. h. in gebührender Ordnung vorlegen. Anm. e. Das Wichtige ſoll auch den wichtigen Ort einnehmen und das minder Wichtige doch auch nicht ver⸗ ſchwinden. Wie der Kaufmann ſeine Waren im Schau— fenſter ordnet, ſo ſoll der Prediger ſeine Gedanken ord⸗ nen; b. für den Prediger. Thema und Dispoſition 1. erleichtern ihm die Ausarbeitung ſeiner Pre— digt, 2. ſind eine große Hilfe fürs Gedächtnis. Wohl⸗ geordnetes iſt leicht memoriert, konfuſes Zeug geht ſchwer ein. Die auf die Dispoſition verwandte Zeit kommt wieder heraus: 3. verhindern das Ausſchweifen der Gedanken und nötigen ihn, beim Gegenſtande zu bleiben. Eine Schranke; 4. bewahren ihn vor Einſeitigkeit. Da er öfter über dieſelbe Lehre predigen muß, wird er immer eine andere Dispoſition zu gewinnen ſuchen. Anm. a. Der Prediger ſolllehrhaftig ſein. Das iſt er nicht, wenn er durcheinander geworfene Stücke der Lehre vorträgt, ſondern nur, wenn er ſie in Zuſammen⸗ hang behandeln kann. Anm. b. Die Dispoſition ſollte der Prediger, wo möglich, ſelbſt entwerfen. David konnte nicht in Sauls Waffenrüſtung einherſchreiten; c. für die Zuhörer. Wohlgeordnetes wird leicht verſtanden, gern gehört, beſſer behalten. Von einem wirren Durcheinander bleibt nicht viel hängen.

10. Ankündigung des Themas. Obwohl die Haupt⸗ ſache iſt, daß die Predigt ein Thema hat, ſo iſt es doch auch wohlgetan, es anzukündigen, damit der Zuhörer beſſer folgen und etwas Beſtimmtes mit nach Hauſe neh⸗ men kann. Manchen würde es ſchwer werden, den Haupt⸗ gedanken ſelbſt herauszufinden.

11. Eigenſchaften des Themas. Das Thema ſoll ſein a. ſchriftgemäß. Der Inhalt muß eine göttliche Wahrheit ſein. Politiſche, weltliche Themata gehören nicht auf die Kanzel; b. textgemäß. Auf den Text beruft ſich der Pre⸗ diger. Nach Ankündigung des Textes ſteht es ihm nicht mehr frei, irgend einen beliebigen Gegenſtand zu neh— men. Alle leitenden Urteile der Predigt ſollten im Text enthalten ſein und daraus entwickelt werden. Nicht tert⸗ gemäße Predigten finden ſich z. B. bei Ahlfeld Ma. 1, 90: Heim 2, 319: Schultze 2, 350. 351: Anm. a. Das Thema ſoll nicht er funden, ſondern im Text ge funden ſein. Anm. b. Tertgemäß kann das Thema nicht genannt werden, wenn es 1. den Sinn des Tertes nicht trifft, z. B. Röm. 8. 38: Ich bin gewiß u. ſ. w. Thema: Die nie wankende Liebe der Gläubigen zu Gott. Ein frommer Betrug, der das Vertrauen der Zuhörer
