1. Duties of the employers are:
a. They should not exalt themselves above the workers. One station is not before God better than another.
b. serve the worker, love him.
Note a. This cannot happen
1. in a sinful business;
2. when the employer does not first count the cost of his undertaking.
Note b. If an employer can no longer fulfill his duties toward the worker, then he should give up his business;
c. not treat the workers harshly and tyrannically, driving and bleeding them like the taskmasters in Egypt, or Laban. Gen. 31, 38-41.
Note a. Through this the workers themselves are also raised up to become heartless, selfish workers.
Note b. Description of such heartless employers: they set wages at the lowest, shut down operations in order to obtain higher prices, are inconsiderate of the safety and health of their workers, out of greed neglect safety measures ordered by law, they are concerned only with their own advantage.
Note c. Yet there are also humane employers:
d. treat the workers kindly and justly; e. not treat the workers like machines;
f. not act on the principle: whatever can be done, will be done.
Note. From this greed for money follow shoddy goods, adulterated foodstuffs, usury, sham bankruptcies;
g. have regard to the state of health of the workers. Healthy workplaces, safety measures in dangerous occupations;
h. not overburden the workers with work. The righteous man has regard for the life of his beast; how much more for his workers!
i. not lengthen the working hours without necessity. Sunday work;
